Re: New wireless in Town & Country MO ?

It's probably micro-cells. When I worked on the utility side of things, I specifically covered the area you are talking about. T&C has actively been blocking attempts by wireless carriers to upgrade services for years. While a tower would be ideal, this is probably the best they could get.

Well, why would they need SEVEN units in a line in 0.7 miles? That doesn't
make sense. Also, why would they put them so low? They could have put it
quite a few feet higher on the pole with no problem. So, if there was only one unit, or if there was one every mile or so, I'd easily believe it was a micro-cell. I don't know who runs the tower hidden in the flagpole of the new Dierbergs at Lindemann and Manchester, but that is pretty close. I think there are a bunch more full-power
cell towers in the area. The water tower on Dougherty Ferry has at least 3 cellular services on it, there's another tower at the power substation at Dougherty Ferry and 270, and there are more cell towers around here that I can't remember right now. Hmmm, there used to be one at the old Ahner's nursery, don't know if they have set up a temp site there or not.

Anyway, this thing seems to have been designed specifically to be very short range due to the low height of the antennas. If that wasn't obvious, then the fact they have one of these things every 450 Feet is another clue.

So, you haven't convinced me.

Jon

Sprint / Nextel, AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Cricket, Verizon, and Clearwire.
It's one company that puts these up and leases them back to the carriers.

Well, AT&T has been working on this gear occasionally, so that solves who is setting this system up. Also, all the antennas have been moved to about 20 feet up the poles.

But, still no idea what this system is.
