External Drive for QIP-7232 HD-DVR

Hi. I'm looking to add an external drive to my 7232 DVR. Other than it being an eSATA drive and a max of 2TB, are there any other restrictions?

TIA....JL

You want one that DOESN'T go into power-down mode on its own (like ECO-rated, "green" drives may) - usually, drives rated for AV service are OK.

I don't think it's on the approved list but I'm running a Fantom 2TB eSATA drive and it's been reliable. The only downside is that it takes a minute for the recorded program list to come up. I'm not sure if it's the "green" drive or if it just takes a bit to scan a 2TB drive. It's been running 24/7 for months and is about 25% full.

I've had trouble using the Fantom 2 TB drives, though some others have not. Mine would keep re-booting and I would have to start the setup all over. I finally replaced it with a Seagate 2 TB unit and it has performed flawlessly for months.

Thanks for your input. I was thinking about a Fantom 1.5TB drive. Where can I find the list of approved drives?
