Re: [Speed] May have to switch to Comcast
said by EG:Thanks for the number. I talked with a tech there, who told me that with home accounts like we have, they haven't allowed static DNS in about 8 years, only for more expensive business accounts. BUT he went and checked for me, and came back with some VERY interesting info. He said that if I DO go the separate modem/router route, I don't HAVE to go buy a modem! ( YAY! ) He said I can kepe using their TG862 and add my own router, and just call them and have them put the TG862 in the BRIDGE MODE and it will work with an outside router! Whoo hoo! ( if that works ) It would save me about $175 on going to Best Buy and getting that 722! said by Melissa2009B:
Well they bounced me around. Comcast told me to get support from Arris on how to change the DNS settings, and Arris said that because it was Comcast, I can only get support from Comcast. No one at Comcast seems to know how to change the DNS settings, or IF they can even be changed.
FWIW, call the "gateway support team" at 1-800-363-2416 about that. They are a cut above the average phone rep for this. It may be best to call them during regular business hours.
AND he said it would probably fix my issue with the GBTV channel!
