Re: Microsoft Security Bulletin(s) for July 10, 2012

Did anyone else see updates via the German site?
One of the laptops is on XP and when visiting Microsoft updates, found the left column was in German, even though the O/S language is set to an English language.

Different.

Very strange indeed. Two of the machines I updated were XP SP3 (via Microsoft Update), and I never saw any German.

Vielleicht?

After all the updates were installed, I checked again and it was all English; other than the updates, all I did was turn off the java quick starter service I must have missed as well before the check, nothing seemed out of place in the processes and Avast was updating the program at the same time.

As I said previously, different. As for possessed, that would start the paranoia wheel turning, but as Avast installed fine, I'm gathering it is all okay.

The only other item I was curious about is the wireless connection via a belkin play usb dongle with wpa set showed unsecured, so I changed it to wpa2.

Guess it is just one of those perks of Windows.

Lol..yeah, I'm sure everything is fine. I've seen far stranger things happen with these darn Windows gadgets.
Could have been far worse. Every website you visited after updating (including this one), and every installed program you have may have all the sudden been in German. That would have become a real pita.

i had one update which wasn't included in the list of updates in the "Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary for July 2012", KB2728973, which is an update for digital certificates..

here is the MS webpage for KB2728973:

Hi all.
Some of MS security updates was installed by automatic update system today. A few PCs in a classroom with Windows 2003 Server. After this installation a sound bug occurred on all of them.
Was no time to find out what the bug and why... Un-installation of all updates that came from MS for this day solved this problem.
So, we had to turn off MS automatic updates. Stability and availability at any time is the most critical thing.
