Lawnmower drive tire repair

Just saw the coolest video on Utube... Guy cut up an old mountain bike tire and glued/screwed it to smooth hard drive tires on a lawnmower....

I gotta find me a used mountain bike tire!!!

I got rid of a Cub Cadet mower because the drive wheels were discontinued. I couldn't find any suitable replacements for the existing ones which were worn smooth.

Would have been a good fix.

So put me on a highway, and show me a sign.

"Serious grippage!" God bless them rednecks. I like it. I need to do this as my bald wheels dig into the lawn in some spots.

I really liked that video.
Man it helped me because on my sears POS mower the wheels are coming off the rims and I know now I need to get some glue

I was laughing when he put screws all around until I thought about how I might fix my problem.

how about snow studs for winter mowing?

I'd put spikes on mine! Traction AND aerating the lawn

How about barbed wire held on with duct tape ?

That would be true redneck ingenuity.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking!!!! I'm going to Implement this next time I go down there!!!

I'm going to hit a bike repair shop this weekend.... looking for an old Mountain Bike tire!! But my plan is to use construction Adhesive, not silicone glue...

Again, why try to find an old mountain bike tire at a bike shop at some place when you can hit a local wal-mart or something and buy one single replacement wheel for 5$ (It's big enough to cover two lawn mower wheels).

If the bike shop has used tires, it's because they're for the garbage and are worn down already.

Heck by having the choice in sizes, you can choose one that is not too wide for your mower.

Well I'm going from memory... Mower is on side of Mountain in N.C., and I'm in Illinois.... A tire retrieved from garbage will be more than sufficient...
I'm thinking medium weight tire (Yes, I remember the big balloon tires on bikes).

The tire as shown in the video is just what I'm looking for....

that's a long trek to N.C.! just to mow!. try »www1.mscdirect.com/cgi/nnsrhm for liquid rubber, which could also be used. anyway that 1939 indian motorcycle is for sale all over. »www.google.com/search?hl=en&outp···le&btnK=

Actually... all four tires should be re-treaded in order to maintain the the proper cut angle of the blade. If the front is too high it makes a mess of the yard. The blade should be level or canted slightly (about 1/8") down in the front.

Keep your eye on the ball, your shoulder to the wheel, your nose to the grindstone, and your ear to the ground. Now, try to work in that position!!!

As if the lawn is ever leveled to keep the front and back of a lawn mower straight aligned with the grass.

My lawn mower has height adjustments on each wheel.

The video mentions using epoxy. Most epoxies do not stick well to plastics.

epoxy? silicone sticks well to most plastics/rubber, and with even one screw on each end of the tread, it's a permanent fix, until that tread wears out, of course.

This is excellent. Something so simple, makes you wonder why you didn't think of it yourself. My son's old 1987 Toro (he mows lawns for summer cash) is in great shape except for the bald drive tires, and this will do the trick.
