Update on email hosts

I must have missed the note.

So now we're supposed to use

inbound.att.net:995
outbound.att.net:465

So now we're supposed to use

inbound.att.net:995
outbound.att.net:465

Currently those hostnames are just CNAME DNS entries for AT&T/Yahoo email servers:

C:\>nslookup inbound.att.net
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.9.1: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.9.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: pop-att-new.mail.am0.yahoodns.net
Address: 98.139.213.175
Aliases: inbound.att.net, pop-att.mail.yahoo.com

C:\>nslookup outbound.att.net
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.9.1: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.9.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: smtp.att.mail.fy4.b.yahoo.com
Addresses: 98.138.84.52, 68.142.198.51
Aliases: outbound.att.net, smtp-att.mail.yahoo.com

Also (fortunately), the older fpostoffice.isp.att.net:995 and fmailhost.isp.att.net:465 also still work because the att.yahoo.com smtp servers have problems if your return or reply-to address is not the same as the account email address when you send email (the isp.att.net smtp servers don't have that limitation).

I suspect that the AT&T/Yahoo partnership may have some rough edges* and AT&T is preparing to take over their customer email again (or find another provider), and once everyone is using att.net email server hostnames (regardless of what they actually point to), that will make the switchover less painful (for the customers and for customer support).

Oh, and you probably got the memo, but it went into your spam folder instead of your inbox. Most of the email I get from AT&T is tagged as spam (mainly because it often is spam, and because they also frequently use outside spam agencies to send it).

* By "rough edges", I mean crap like this: »Nearly Half a Million Yahoo Passwords Leaked

And this is not the first time Yahoo's shoddy security has allowed this to happen, it is a frequent occurrence. I have had to change my Yahoo passwords several times because of their shoddy security.
