[Troubleshooting] Clearwire - Richmond, VA
I've been experiencing intermittent connectivity issues with Clear in my area for about 2 weeks.
What I originally thought was a tower issue close to home I believe is now a network issue. An issue that Clear is aware of and doesn't resolve and is bs'ing me.
During the day or middle of the night I can connect with no problems. If I disconnect or reboot I cannot reconnect for hours. This issue seems to only surface during peak hours in the evenings and on weekends.
Clear Connection Manager shows full bars with tower signal and attempts to connect, but won't. My network icon shows "identifying" or "authenticating." This cycle will repeat for hours until it finally connects. While it is doing this, I can enable WiFi and connect to the FiOS router using the stick as an antenna. I can leave my area to another tower I locate on their map and get the same problem.
Tech support went through the normal - re-install Connection Manager, drivers, etc numerous times. Even replaced the modem. I have two of their modems and the same problem with both on two different laptops.
Tech support has determined it is a network issue and their engineers are supposedly involved. 5 trouble tickets issued and all of them remain open and unresolved after 2 weeks.
I am in Richmond, VA, but my IP always shows my geo-location as Charlotte, NC.
An IT person has checked this for me as I wasn't buying their stories and believe the problem is in the dynamic IP's. Their tech support agreed which why engineering is involved.
We're speculating that they don't have enough IP's and I am having to wait in turn for one to become available before I can connect.
Does this sound correct?
I believe they know what the problem is and are covering it all up.
