 | Express 4 and 8 vs Turbo 14 Is there a real noticeable speed difference between these packages? I would imagine that Express 4 would take a little longer at downloading files than Express 8 or really noticeable than Turbo 14. How are the Express packages for general internet browsing? Do they load web pages quickly? Since the increase in the prices Turbo 14 is getting a little expensive and I am planning to step back down to a slower service. Would I regret it? I don't mind the little extra wait if it will save me money. Also how will video streaming be off of YouTube? |

 | reply to robman50 I am just asking if going down from Turbo 14 to Express 4 will be painfully slow because I am thinking of going to DSL. The DSL service in my area is equivalent to the Express 4 service. It might be a bit slower but about $10-20 cheaper and an huge increase in the cap (from 80gb to 300gb) is definitely worth it. |

It will depend on the page... basic text pages like DSLReports will likely be nearly as fast.
Pages with embedded flash, video, etc may lag due to the size of the content.
On Youtube, you will have to wait for the video to buffer on Express 4, unless you scale back the quality. |

 | reply to robman50 I went from Cogeco 20meg down to START.CA 4meg down. Everything loads the same don't worry about it you'll be pleased. |

 | Mostly the YouTube videos come down as 480p. If I watch an 720p video I don't mind the wait. |

| Going from 14 to 4 is going to be a noticeable hit. While some basic stuff might appear to load almost as fast, the rest will load orders of magnitude slower.
I couldn't go to 4 myself. It would be very painful, IMHO.
Have you had a look at some of the indy DSL providers, or start.ca?

 | TekSavvy has DSL 6 as the max for my area. Have thought about Start's 18mb service. But I really don't like the fact of how all of the Cogeco services go out way to often. |

I know that their interconnect (or whatever the hell they call it) with Cogeco had an issue or two, but IMHO I don't think reliability is an issue with Cogeco, It certainly wasn't when I was with them - solid as a rock.
Now, their offerings and pricing are another story... and another thread...
FWIW, I've had 2 outages with Teksavvy since going back to DSL. Brief, and virtually painless, but outages nonetheless. Shit happens.
I'm thinking about firing up a connection with start.ca and doing some redundancy with a dual wan router. I may wait for a bit, I can tether as a backup, and TSI is reasonably stable.
