Diagnostic maintenance charge

I am currently using Electronic box and as of this month Jul-2012 electronic box is not providing the service to my Demarcation point of 640/512 as reported by 2 of my DSL MODEMS. They want to charge a diagnostic maintenance charge of $95 if nothing is found as a problem when I clearly reported that my speed does not match there Lantern test from the demarcation point. Has any one had any experience with DMC (diagnostic maintenance charges)

Hello,

That is a tarriffed fee from the CRTC that they are making you aware of. Most likely you won't be billed it and id you were i know diskace would fight it on your behalf

There is always a risk that Bell will try to bill eBox for this fee. Considering your sync speed is just 10 kilobits shy of the maximum, you'd be stupid to risk that fee for such an insignificant difference.

The speeds are always "up to" ...

If possible, why not considering a higher profile? 6M would be perfect ...

Guspaz is right! ... like always

Paste the line stats (or take screen shots) from both your modems, please.

I would not be risking anything. the service I am paying is 640/512 and if it is under by 1 kb someone else will be paying the charge not me. Also this is not the throughput this is the modem reported service. I am still awaiting a response from Electronic box

It's in the tariff, his were must-informed. Ebox doesn't have techs that come to your house. Bell and/or one of their contractors do.

What part of "up to", do you not understand.

Electronic box already explained it to you in this topic you also have going here:
»DSL service speed

If the problem is found to be in your house (and Bell won't look for that) then you pay.

Everything/anything after the demark you pay.

Go to your demarc, hook your modem up to it, then take a screen shot of the stats with your modems.

Then to compare, take a screen shot with where the modem is plugged in now and upload that as well for us to see.

If there is a big difference then maybe you won't pay. But it seems to me you would rather create a bunch of topics and just nag instead of posting screen shots.

If you have trouble understanding what a screen shot is, or what a demarc is, then ask for help. People will help you.

But if all you are going to do is create a bunch of topics that go nowhere, claim no one is replying to you when they already have, then... dunno what to say. Leave Ebox and go to another ISP.

Make sure you post your nickname on DSLR when you sign up so they know who they'd be dealing with

As mentioned it is a tarrif and would be paid to Bell, I was warned of this fee every time I called Teksavvy with a speed issue back when I had them for DSL

Yes. thats correct. bell would be coming to the home to perform the correction of ensuring my 640/512 service is present at my demarcation point and bell would be initiated the charge to electronic box my service provider. It is not a tarrif this is a correction to service.

You're an idiot and I hope you get charged $95 just to teach you a lesson. I have an ADSL2+ service which is "up to" 24 mbps. My modem synchs at 5.7 mbps. I'm not complaining because I understand that it is how DSL works.

TSI was giving that warning even to people (myself included) who called for the profile bump to 6M/800 due to Bell missing their line during automatic upgrades.

Quite annoying but that is how it is because that is how the tariffs are.

At least now ISPs have access to the "optimize profile" function in their Bell portal to (attempt to) automatically fix those issues when the port is correctly mapped instead of filing generic trouble/low-speed/no-sync tickets for every trivial thing.

So, I could ask my ISP to optimise my profile, without incurring a $95 diagnostic? ... I'm on a new ISP 3 or 4 blocks from where the remote is supposed to be, getting 3/768 when service is 5/1, supplied modem/router is crippled can't see anything more illuminating than line speed, doesn't say whether synched speed or maximum, and packet loss which is zero.

Sometimes the button even works. Pretty awesome.

Are you also going to sue the automakers if your cars don't get exactly the posted mileage numbers?

As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a maroon".
