Why are you using a Dallas speedtest server, when you are in New York? Use a closer server. |

If you're referring to the lack of response to the third echo on hop #4, then you clearly know nothing about traceroutes and how intermediate routers handle ICMP. The only thing that matters is END TO END (hint: Last Hop) connection, and your traceroute results show consistent results within 1ms of each other with zero loss. |

You're tracing to the VZ speedtest front-end. It doesn't matter where that's hosted, because AFTER you enter the speedtest site, you choose the state you're in. Your speed test DOES NOT RUN from the "speedtest.verizon.net" front-end. IP address of the NY speedtest: 108.12.159.18Traceroute to there, and you'll see much different results. |

Yeah my bad - I posted the wrong results. I've had spikes over 130ms to my gateway and packetloss to my gateway.
That's what happens when you're up too late several nights in a row:
Tracing route to dslreports.com [209.123.109.175] over a maximum of 30 hops:

That's clearly indicative of a problem between you and VZ's edge router. Simply pinging the edge router doesn't indicate if you're seeing lost packets, which is why I prefer WINMTR. However, even WINMTR isn't going to tell you if it's a bad ONT, a bad optical splitter, poor fiber connection, or a bad PON card. |

Yeah - Verizon was here the past 2 weeks or so digging up the road on my street. I'm not entirely certain, but it seems the problems started happening when they started working. They are now done working - and my problem hasn't gone away. I used to use UOTrace back in the late 90s. » support.uo.com/latency.html |

Interesting. I am off Weidner right behind the train station. They were tearing up the road on Lawson and Weidner for the past week or so - right in front of the VFW. They have since finished - but my problems are still there.
Can you post a few trace routes to compare? What's your gateway and how are your ping times/packetloss to it? etc
Thanks! |

In the UOTrace, after you do the initial trace, you can hit Poll and it will send continuous packets along the route to give you a better idea of what's going on.
Hit stop poll when you're done. You'll get min/max/average and percent packetloss. |

Optimum SpeedTest | Fios SpeedTest |
Here are speedtest done on the same computer a few seconds after one another... so my computer can handle the speed its just something is not working right with my fios services I don't understand why... I have new windows install I also have the fios speed optimizer installed... The only speed test that gives me higher results is the verizon speed test but something is not right with that because I can get acurate results with optimum on any speed test. I have a funny feeling the verizon one is looking for the highest speed for instance the problem that im getting is sometimes I get the correct speed in the beginning of the speed test but then a few seconds latter the test drops to 30 then to 20 and then to 5 or 6 or occasionally 2 or 4 mbps the upload is usually good it's the download that cant sustain. |

SL83 how are your speedtests are you getting accurate ones or tests that drop out by the end of the test or start out low.. and if you are getting bad tests results can you run a test on speedtest.verizon.net |

My speedtests vary wildly. Just now on myspeed.visualware.com I ran the test 2 times back to back. The first time I got 43/36. The second time I got 1.46/36.6
The Verizon speedtest usually gives me the full download speed, but an upload of 12 or so. Just now it gave me 43.155/16.351. Then 42.665/12.733.
The FIOS 300 one gave me just now 43.13/38.11 and then 43.15/38.06.
The speedtest.net ones crap out on me halfway through most of the time. |

Yeah like mine something is messed up with that because on my optimum line on the same computer I always get accurate results and it sustains it doesn't jump all over the place. |
