[Speed] Widely varying speedsI am in a new place and internet speed is varying widely from 1Mb/s down up to by cap of 30Mb/s down. Upload can vary from .5 to 1Mb/s..
The modem is a moto sbv5220 as I have a bundle with telephone.
How do these number look for this modem ? Obviously Not DOCSIS 3
From the modem.
Down. Signal to Noise Ratio 35 dB Downstream Modulation QAM256 Power Level 9 dBmV
Up Channel ID 12 Frequency 24500000 Hz Ranging Service ID 7133 Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s Power Level 42 dBmV Upstream Modulation [3] QPSK [2] 16QAM [3] 64QAM
The speeds get MUCH BETTER at off peak hours and reach very low speeds at peak internet usage house. |

Your problem is that you are not D3. The channel is getting saturated with everybody streaming and stuff during peak hours.
The signals are OK. I assume it's rented, so you are sort of stuck with it as you just get whatever is on the truck. You can try complaining and see if you can get a better eMTA with D3 support. Otherwise, the only way to guarantee one is to upgrade your internet speed (more $$$) to a tier that requires D3. |

If he is getting the 30Mbps download speed is it possible that he already is on a D3 speed tier just not a D3 modem? Would it be something to consider to purchase a D3 modem and just use that for Internet and have the eMTA handle the phone? |
|
|
That's what I would suggest. A D3 modem. |

My modem only has one downstream channel so its not doing D3.
So you can have a eMTA AND a D3 modem ? This sounds like this will completly confuze the cable company.
Is there a Comcast rep here who can help me with this ?
OR
Get me a D3 eMTA ?
Hmmmm whats a good D3 eMTA ? I suppose just buying one will be a faster solution |

DO NOT BUY an eMTA on ebay!!! ComCast WILL NOT activate it on their network. The only Customer owned eMTA's allowed were sold by your local BestBuy in limited areas, now even more limit as BestBuy+comcast kiosks seem to be being phased out. either rent (at least temporarily) a D3 eMTA or modem from comcast to see how it works, or buy your own D3 modem (used ` especially off ebay or craiglist NOT recommend) and have it added to your account. |

said by xymox1:Im in Plano, Texas on Comcast.. Are you sure your cable company is Comcast? Plano used to be Comcast but in 2006 through a series of swaps Time Warner acquired the Plano system. |

Agreed. Do not buy ANYTHING off Ebay and expect to be able to use it. The only way to get a usable EMTA is to buy one from Best Buy. » www.arrisi.com/consumer/ ··· _Buy.pdfOr get one from your cable company by renting and see if it helps with your issues. And if you buy your own cable modem see here for one of the best currently on the market, future proofed too: » www.amazon.com/Zoom-DOCS ··· e+modems |

I really wouldn't recommend getting anything off Ebay when it comes to cable modems and cable boxes or even cable cards because there is a high likelihood that they are stolen or broken. People have been arrested for "possession of stolen goods" even when it was unintentional.
Anyway I've seen quite a few people who have decided to run a rented eMTA and an owned cable modem separately either because where they have their phone and their router aren't near each other, or because they don't like the performance of a rented eMTA for their internet. |
