Yes, although line maintenance is expensive and they'll certainly be looking for ways to offload those markets. Wireless network costs are what they are. Maybe one solution would be to change the USF rules to allow ATT & VZ to tap into those funds to subsidize LTE costs to underserved areas.

That's the last thing they need is mo money. They want to abandon these albatrosses (not what they are but how they view them). At this point there is no easy way to fix this. What should be done but there isn't a way at the moment would be to use the USF to do a national fiber network. Lay Fiber everywhere and open it up to all providers. This wouldn't be a muni fiber in that we are not competing just giving the opportunity for other companies to compete. It could be done but the morass of court fights would drag along. If anything this is a national infrastructure necessity.
