I blame the OP. I never see any of that stuff and have never allowed apps. Don't click links=problem solved.

I don't understand how people have issues with the use of FB.

"Frictionless Sharing" - am with you OP... Socialcam NSFW spam posts started appearing in my News Feed without my interaction, it was only because some of my friends were using it (alot!). I just treated them like other posts in the News Feed, do not delete them, just block the app's posts from appearing in the News Feed!

Its a jungle out there!

facebook tracks you on the web, it's possible that while surfing for adult content they ASSumed ads for adult content are acceptable.
ABP and the facebook privacy ABP filter gets rid of all this & firefox ghostery extension will block the tracking as well.

Yeap and that perfectly explains the "Family finds squatters in home" article

Re: [Rant] THis is why Facebook needs to go away!

Fun with Facebook! Setup a totally bogus persona and watch how FB, corporations and of course, your government, can manipulate your lives. You won't understand the previous statement, so don't try. I watched as my persona propagated across the face of the planet, adding bits and pieces as it went. A well placed name, location or anything for that matter, and the persona grew and grew, all the little ant drones touching each other, validating that were now part of the collective. How simple to control all of it. Facebook, the ultimate in social manipulation. Sign up now so I can have even more fun!

If you are being bombarded with Ads like these than you are not FBing right. People act like FB steals your identity, your credit card, and makes purchases for you. I've never been once influence or manipulated by FB to make a purchase. For years social networks like Xanga and Myspace operated and no one really cared. FB seems to be the first big mainstream social network and old farts are just paranoid.

Re: [Rant] THis is why Facebook needs to go away!

You cannot effect the content of a what Facebook determines is trending when it is presented that way by Facebook.

I too got the soft-porn trending thing. I went ape-shit all over Google and the Facebook help, no luck. I can't even get Facebook to stop sending me texts and emails, even though I have turned all that stuff off.

I did figure out that you can click the X in the upper right corner of any ad, click "hide all by ...", then click the reason as 'uninteresting'. Facebook will stop showing you those ads. Useful in this political season.

Yeah, and the best way to fix high gas prices is to just stop driving -- whats your point? The OP looked for a solution to one specific problem he had with FB, and we provided a solution. Problem solved.

People are certainly entitled not to use it if they dont like their practices or the site itself.. But the OP seemed to indicate that he/she would like to continue using it, but without the BS that was posted when he viewed his wall.

Yeah Social Fixer is a good Tool but it does come with a cost of a performance hit to page loading.

Adblock on the other hand in Firefox and I think also Chrome will block a lot of junk like this.

It's tragic the way people can't distinguish satire from reality. Personally, I blame Facebook for turning people into idiots.

Actually I know it is a Satire, but the FB Hate is just as much of a Satire. Really folks if one does not like it then leave it. I see people that are Tech Challenged all the time. Usually they are much worse then average to. I run FB with Adblock Plus and I NEVER see anything like what the OP posted in his/her picture.

I guess Sarcasm does not go over to well when typed LOL.

I said it before and will repeat it again: I'm not so sure this is anything that the user did "wrong", i.e. clicking links they shouldn't have, etc, etc. I'm very safe (read: smart) on using FB and not clicking random links posted by people (not actually posted by them, but by bots that they've mistakenly allowed to do so) but have had a "Trending article" appear at the top of the news feed. Well, today, there's a "trending article" buried in the middle of my news feed.

I think this is FB experimenting or testing.

That is exactly what I was seeing. I sort by most recent and if I had been away for a while and starting scrolling down, the "trending" crap would typically show up somewhere in the middle of my feed.

I have since put socialcam manually in my blocked apps, along with another trending article that showed up today which allowed me to block the article's owner which was yahoo.

I always sort (or re-sort) to "Latest..." so those could have appeared at the top based on activity.

You, and a few others, keep pointing at SocialCam though. This is NOT just about SocialCam, as shown in your original post. MSN is involved as well.

Agreed. I have had to deal with SocialCam, MSN, and now Yahoo.

I believe I've only seen "Trending Video" from SocialCam and it was 1-2 times only. I have watched 2-3 videos on SocialCam and it was weeks ago. Of course, FB never forgets anything... What I suspect is my "friends", and a fair number of them, watch these videos.

I had a "Trending article" show up today

There is an "X" available now. I think the other times I'd seen this show up there was no "X". Note the choices though -- no "Hide Trending..." option available.

That is exactly what I am seeing and I am using the "Hide all by" option. However, it is still really annoying just not being able to turn of the entire trending thing.

I have had ones pop-up with sites I have never heard of.
