anon posted : Well I'm sorry you guys feel that way. As I just moved in January this year and was able to cancel my service. Also I was estimating when I got fios for the first time. 05 is still 7 years ago. If I remember correctly the first month Internet was free. So I went with there highest package. I believe it was 35/5 or something. And as far as 05 being when fios rolled out in my neighborhood , I believe that was when the tv services became available. Internet was available a lot earlier than the tv. I'd just like to add that I don't BS people! This is just my experiences.

aaronwt posted : I'm thinking now about upgrading to the 150/65 tier. Only because of the faster upload speeds. I really wish they had a 65/65 tier, that would be perfect. I started using Amazon for some backup storage and it currently maxes out my 35Mb/s upload connection. So it would be nice to have more upload. But I was hesitant about going to 75/35 so now I'm even more hesitant about the 150/65 tier. If the price increase was around 33% lower I would probably do it right away, but it is a big increase from my current 35/35 tier. I spoke with more than 1 installer who told me that the 4 position switch in the CO will be divided so 2 positions will still support BPON and 2 positions will now support GPON. They are supposed to give me a GPON ONT and a REV I router. I will try to find out which CO I am serviced out of for you. I did my upgrade with my friends at the Verizon FIOS store. The manager also confirmed 150/65. We will see this afternoon. I will post.

Use this to locate your CO:

»/coinfo

floridafuzz posted : I signed up a couple of weeks ago- install is for today. I am sure all will go well. All my equipment is inside in the basement on a panel the bride and I put up. No problem with any of it over 4 years+ old. Still looks brand new! I am also on 35/35 now and going to 150/65. I have a question, I am now using a Trendnet637 WAP for wireless. I am getting Tx speed of 72Mbps and RX of 144.5. Is that decent? I have the wireless shut off on my Actiontec rev D. Once the new ONT and router is installed will I get higher wireless speeds and should I use the new Actiontec rev I or still use my Trendnet?

freyder posted : My upgrade experience has not gone so well but I've temporarily solved the issue in spite of being ignored TWICE by Verizon support.

I upgraded last week and while I did see increased speeds I was not getting anywhere near 150 Mbits down. Speed tests consistently showed 95/70.

So I called support and the rep said it was definitely provisioned correctly but she would have someone contact me within 48 hours and we would get it straightened out.

While waiting for a tech to call I started focusing on the cabling between the ONT and router. My home has ethernet cabling including two drops in to my garage. There is a short cable, which the Verizon installer ran 2.5 years ago, from the ONT to one of those jacks.

I start my testing by plugging the WAN ethernet cable from the router into a laptop to check the ethernet link speed. It would only link at 100Mbps not the required 1Gbps! I took the laptop out to the ONT and plugged in to the ethernet jack and got 1 Gbps.
At this point I'm convinced its the cabling.

Since it had now been well over 48 hours since I called support I decided to call back and see what the deal was. The ticket had been closed! Great. Thanks.
I open another ticket and told them that the cable needs to be checked as it is not syncing at 1Gbps and that is why I only see around 95Mbps down. Not surprisingly the rep had no idea what I was talking about and started blathering on about running the optimizer blah blah blah... Sigh...
I hang up thinking I now have a ticket in the system and somebody will come and check the cable... Nope.. Nada.. Zip. That was Monday and today is Friday. They blew me off again! :(

Anyway, so yesterday I picked up a cable tester at Home Depot and test the two runs. My fears were confirmed... pair 4/5 open on the short cable the Verizon tech installed. The run from my punch down block to my garage jack tested fine.

I ran a temporary ethernet cable from the jack in my garage out the back door and around to the ONT. Bingo! New speed tests show 153/72 Mbits. Nice! :D

I guess today I'll bust out the crimper and fix that cable. I'd rather Verizon did it but perhaps they don't think its their problem.

On a side note I did receive a Rev I router the day after my order even though I told them I didn't need it.
I prefer my ASUS RT-N66U with Tomato firmware but I'll keep their router handy as they don't want to even talk to you if you don't use their router.

EDIT: Issue resolved after I replaced both connectors.
