A group of travelers make their way along a dusty road in the wilderness towards Calcutta. It has been two years since Lord Cavendish-Bentinck was appointed governor-general and began his purge of the feared Thuggee cult. Despite the large success of his right hand assistant Sir William Sleeman's campaign of eradication, remnants of the Thuggee still remain, and his job is not yet finished. The travelers wake to Gomez dead on the ground, his purse stripped, a cord around his neck. They are here!
