 | [Speed] Extreme 50 drops off once per day to almost zero I need some help and/or advice......
I love my Extreme 50. . . . most of the time. I get 62 down and 16 up 90% of the time. For the last month, once per day usually, in the mid afternoon (but sometimes at night) the down and up drop off to almost zero (per speedtest.net) for 1 to 6 hours (and then returns to normal). I never lose connectivity, but web surfing is painful for even a single user. I have bypassed everything and gone from my modem, directly to the PC with the same results. I have even swapped out my modem. I have a separate drop for my data/modem with no amps or splitters. The down DbmV is 4.5 on all 4 channels and the up is 44 DbmV on all 3 channels. The signal levels do not change during the speed drop and my cable TV exhibits no problems or signal issues.
Whenever I call Comcast I am told they see "nothing" wrong.... (although I have never called during a slowdown). One tech went so far as to suggest I go with FIOS if speed was important. He also claimed that Comcast does not really guarantee speed and "we have no other reports like this in your area"..... so, in effect, I should get over the concern. Rotten support in my opinion.
To me, this seems to be an overloaded node and not an analog signal issue. If it was analog, wouldn't I also see the signal levels change and TV pixelation during the slow downs?
Why can't Comcast monitor my ip and see for themselves, proactively, the slow downs? For 18 months my service was never "choked" like this. Are there any tests I can run from this end to further id where the bandwidth restriction occurs?
Thanks,
