That is very interesting about the Verizon data plans going up to 20GB.
I currently pay $90 for an individual unlimited talk and text plan with a $100 data plan that includes mobile hot spot at a special that was offered for double the data at the time. So I get 20GB plus an additional 2 GB for the hot spot feature.
With my employer discount on the data services of 20% ($100 for 22GB is reduced to $80), my bill before taxes comes to around $170.
$90 for unlimited talk and text
$80 for 22GB data (after 20% discount)
_____
$170
Now it seems that I could sign up for a shared plan with Verizon and pay $40 for the smart phone and $150 for the 20GB of data. If I can apply the same 20% discount to the shared data feature, that would bring the data price down to $120.
$40 for unlimited talk and text
$120 for 20GB data (after 20% discount)
____
$160
When my current 2-year contract expires, I will look into the option of getting the 20GB shared plan for a single phone and perhaps save $240 over the length of the next 2-year contract.
20GB is my safe cap level to avoid overages, so at least I'll most likely have that option going forward with Verizon, AT&T, and possibly Sprint over LTE in my region.
