Re: Time Warner Cable starts rolling out lightly refreshed guide

Ever since the update our SA explorer 8300 HDC DVR's have been terribly slow. shows pause randomly, and some other things. there's plenty of room for air flow, Ive done my best to blow out any dust inside the thing.

Ive considered opening it up and being more through. Is anyone else 100% displeased with it?

Swap it for a newer Samsung or Cisco box as those are much faster with the new update if you can get one.

Note if you open your box and TWC finds out about it, you violate your service agreement is the box is a rented property. You could be fined for that.

Best thing to do is to swap out the box for a newer model, (The Cisco or Samsung) or wait for software updates. TWC is aware that some of the boxes have very slow keyboards. Interestingly enough, the OLDEST SA-8300HD and SA-8300 (No C) boxes are really fast and have reported almost no lag at all! Also, no lag on the SA-8240 HD (no C) box.

PS. On my box, the SA-8300HDC, the only thing that is slow is the keyboard when approximately more than seven listings of a show title are present. Best example is a Search for MLB Baseball, which can have up to 30+ games:

1.) On the SA-8240/8300(no C) models there is almost no lag between keying in each letter.

2.) On most C boxes, there can be between a 10-25 second lag from letter to letter on the keyboard when more than seven listings are involved. Note that on ODN 5.1, there was very little lag on the keyboard, even on the HDC's. I have heard from inside sources that the next software update is supposed to improve the keyboard speed.

3.) Some divisions are reporting that the Cisco C-models (the newer boxes) have a 5-second or less lag time. The Samsung DVR's have a bit of a slower lag on the keyboard. NON-DVR Samsungs, and the NON-DVR Ciscos are experiencing keyboard lag. Hopefully the next update will fix this.

4.) The slowness of many of the C-boxes is due to them being bloated down with JAVA, which is a resource hog in itself Some of the Samsungs, same story. It seems that only the very new Cisco 8700's and Ciscos 3272 have the fastest keyboard response time. but some divisions will only give out those boxes to Whole House/Signature Home Customers. Or if you want a really fast keyboard, since the MDN (no C) SA-8240 and SA-8300(no C) don't have Java, they are really fast.

5.) If you go below a legacy box lower than the SA-8240 (no C) such as an SA-8000, or sadly have a non-DVR SA, or worse, Pioneer series, those boxes are so old with the update that they don't work well at all. Get an updated box.
