Re: How about expanding? You mean they wired my city through huge tax subsidies? There is nothing but monopolies in our country. Anyone with half an IQ point knows that. These companies are lazy. They are just like Ma Bell. I am old enough to remember them. You "modern" republican's seem to forget that your patron saint Reagan dismantled the Phone Company. This is turning into exactly like that, but instead of a national company, it's just little fiefdoms scattered around, each not wanting or letting competition in. The whole point for us to have capitalism is for everyone getting a chance, not this corporate socialism which you republican's believe in.
If you had been paying attention, you would have noticed that the big companies like Comcast and Verizon were SIGNING agreements NOT to compete against each other.....is that capitalism? No, it's not. It's fiefdoms. Without competition, there is no purpose for them to make things better. And that is WHY we chose capitalism, because it's supposed to benefit us. If it doesn't benefit the people, then whats the point of supporting it? So what we have is companies buying more companies and becoming monopolies. That is not how this is supposed to work. We need government (yeah yeah, cliche cliche :gubment is bad m'kay:) to regulate these companies in a way that gives rise to competition, not stagnates. That is the whole point to government: regulation. Without regulation we are just like Somalia.

Comcast & Verizon did not sign a no compete agreement. They signed a marketing agreement. You are listening too much to Karl's paranoid beliefs.
Did you read the article that you linked to?
Seems he was right in general. And there are a lot of reasons during a recession that tax writeoffs are generated, including the stock options plan which seems to apply to all companies.
