Algonquin Park East Side Fire Closures

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has closed access to the "East Side" of Algonquin Park and all Crown land on the Barron Canyon Road due to a forest fire currently burning out of control within the boundaries of Canadian Forces Base Petawawa.

Due to the ongoing forest fire currently burning on CFB Petawawa property directly adjacent to the Algonquin Park boundary (between the Petawawa River and the Barron River); the Lake Traverse Road – Barron Canyon Road has been closed and no access to the east side of Algonquin Park is available.

At this time, (Saturday 8:15am) the fire has not entered Algonquin Park. McManus Lake, Achray Campground, and backcountry lakes in this area are being evacuated today. This is a precautionary measure and is proceeding in an orderly fashion without incident. The road block will be located on County Road 28 near the Algonquin Portage Store (Schinke's store). At this time it is unknown how long the road closure and east side of Algonquin Park closure will be in place.
The following areas are closed in Algonquin Park until further notice:

McManus Lake Access Point (#21)
Achray - Grand Lake Access Point (#22)
Lake Travers Access Point (#23)
Eastern Pines Backpacking Trail
Sand Lake Gate
Crooked Chute Ranger Cabin
Wenda Lake Ranger Cabin
Barron Canyon Trail
