 | [Rant] Online Commercials I understand that content providers have a need to run commercials with their video content and I don't have a problem with the commercials. What I have a problem with is the advertisers running the same damn commercial over and over and over and over.
I am watching a season of This Old House online right now and every commercial is the same damn AllState commercial. I don't care if it's the same advertiser just rotate the commercials. -- I do not, have not, and will not work for AT&T/Comcast/Verizon/Charter or similar sized company. |

I don't know why this is, but for some reason many of the TV networks do not use the same advertisers for the online streaming as for the TV ads. Perhaps this is a result of an attempt to provide targeted advertising.
Do you have an ad blocker installed in your browser (such as Adblock Plus for Firefox)? I have found that it can successfully remove video advertisements on some video streaming sites. Doesn't work on all of them, but if you're not using it already, it's worth trying. |

| reply to battleop I was watching some videos on the NASCAR.com site & they have an opening ad on them. At least they do rotate them somewhat, but what's annoying to me is most all the other ads play fine, but you get that Viagra ad where it seems always to pause & stutter whenever the Viagra name's on the screen. Geeze the other parts play fine, then here comes the part with Viagra or Viagra.com & it seems like 30 seconds before it starts back up. Hmmmm not so subtle Subliminal Advertising. -- Explore Xubuntu. Like It? Install It. [Love It]! |

 | said by M A R S:said by thegeek:Adblock Plus for Firefox solves this. Because of this i never see ads Except for the sites that run their video thru the advertiser's URL -- which means it's all blocked.
Or, even worse, those that run their ads on one server (which play) and their content on another -- which don't. Grrr! |

 | Marketwatch and WaPo are particularly bad about it...
If you're not having issues, maybe it's just my configuration... |

Re: [Rant] Online Commercials AdBlockPlus along with a hosts file that redirects any other ads to 127.0.0.1. It even blocks the ads in Pandora that are supposed to air every 5th song. |

Re: [Rant] Online Commercials Yes, I very much have the same complaints about on-line ads. I could easily block them, but I generally don't because I understand the need to derive revenue in order to provide the "free" services that most folks provide these days. But the repetitiveness is very off-putting, and I may well yet block certain ads which annoy me.
And the "targeted" ads that everyone is so in love with these days don't necessarily work that much better. For example, I'm constantly hit with ads for products which I bought weeks or months ago; with vacation-destination ads for the vacation that I got back from ages ago; with ads triggered from a single, just-in-passing Google keyword search for products that I have no real interest in; and so on. So these are usually a complete waste of money for the advertisers. |

 | reply to battleop In-fact I have problem with the commercials. The web pages of top sites including yahoo look like an ad poster. Before I can watch a popular youtube video, I am greeted with ads all the time. The only ads that are relevant and actually do not irritate users are the facebook ads. They stay quietly but still make an expression. You don't always have to shout for attention. |
