Re: [IMG] FiOS TV app on Samsung bluray... I really hope this comes to Android, but I use Slingbox already (full control over a dedicated HD Box). So unless quality is better, I'll probably continue to use my Slingbox. |

 | I have a 2012 BD-E5700. What section would I find the app, if I even get it? |

 | reply to nycdave NYCDave, I think this URL indicates that it should work on my 2011 model TV but the app does not show up for me:
»www22.verizon.com/Support/Reside···ices.htm
I posted a similar question on the Samsung support website, which seems to contradict Verizon's info, i.e. Samsung says only 2012 models are supported. My model is a PN51D6500.
Is my set certified? |

It works but there are only a handful of channels available and the on demand feature is only for pay movies and does not allow access to free on demand content. Is there a future release to fix this? |

Is there a future release to fix this? It won't be fixed because it's not broken. This is only a little add-on feature to the FIOS service. Verizon isn't going to allow (practically) free alternatives to their rented STB's. |

 | reply to Greg2600 said by Greg2600:Gee Whiz, an App is an App, why can't they make this for Android? WRONG. An app is not an app. Usually they have to be written from scratch for each device they run on. So if there is an iPhone app, an Andriod app, a Blackberry app, a Samsung Blu-Ray app, an XBox 360 app, etc. EACH ONE has to be coded from scratch. There may be some designs and back-end data services that they will share, but your assumption is absolutely inaccurate. |

 | reply to DGGSLF Have you retried to find the application in the last couple weeks? If not, what model of TV/BR do you have? |
|
 | reply to aaronwt Flex View is a sub set of VOD, generally the newer/more popular stuff. |
|
 | reply to LaurenBabis I have tried it at least twice a week. It still doesn't show the FiOS TV app.
I have a Samsung 51 inch TV, Model# PN51D6500DF. |

TimCo join:2005-01-14 Ronkonkoma, NY | I have a UN55D6300 and did not have a FIOS app until I updated the TV firmware. |
|
 | My TV has the latest version of the firmware which BTW, also matches the firmware number on a newer 2012 model TV that does have the FiOS app working.
I actually went to my sister's house and checked her's on Sunday. She also has FiOS and has had the new app installed for more than a month now.
The current version of the firmware on both my TV and her's is 001016. Her app store does look a bit different cosmetically but most, if not all of the available apps in her store, match mine. |

Rattler join:2001-04-13 Havertown, PA 1 edit | reply to city318 Sort of resurrecting this thread because I just got a Samsung BD-E5900 BluRay player (supposed to be compatible w/ the FiOS app per this link: »www22.verizon.com/Support/Reside···ices.htm ) and went to the Samsung apps site (under Videos) but could not find the FiOS app via the BluRay link. However, if I go there from my PC, the FiOS app is listed.
I checked the firmware on the BD-E5900 and it appears to be a later version than on the Samsung website. Player: 1054.1, website: 1053.2
According to the Samsung site, this player isn't compatible with the FiOS app (for that matter, it says no BluRay players are) but V* says it is... Anyone have additional info???

 | I still can't get it to work on my PN51D6500, which is a 2011 model 3D TV. I updated to the latest firmware, which is 1017.3 but still no go. Opened a ticket with Samsung and they suggested I call their support line on Monday, so we''ll see if they can fix it. Btw, on their website, the release notes for firmware 1017.3 actually says it adds support for Verizon, along with DRM and other fixes. |
|
 | Update: So I talked to Samsung support this morning. They did a remote access to my TV and verified that I had the latest firmware verison 1017.3. They then told me that the Verizon App is not supported on any 2011 model TVs, only 2012 models, even though the Verizon website says their app is supported on my model (my exact model number is listed) and even though the Samsung support notes for firmware version 1017.3 on the Samsung website says this latest update supports the Verizon App.
I guess Verizon and Samsung are not really talking to each other as one would hope. So much for the partnering their press release had suggested. :-( |

Rattler join:2001-04-13 Havertown, PA | reply to DGGSLF Well that bites the big one! One of the reasons I got this particular BluRay player was because of the compatibility listing on the Verizon site. Unfortunately, the Samsung TV it is connected to isn't a SmarTV so no joy there...
I'm guessing that when you go to the Samsung app store, it looks at the unit accessing it and only shows the apps that are supposed to work on it.
Hopefully, they'll get their s*** together and "git 'er done" (and soon!).
BTW, it has been my experience that the CSRs, in general, will give you different info, depending on which one you get and what time of day it is... -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

 | I just saw this update from Samsung. It looks like they plan to release their refresh of the Smart Hub at CES in January. Maybe they will allow this update to work on 2011 model TVs as well, along with the FiOS app but I guess this is wishful thinking.

Rattler join:2001-04-13 Havertown, PA | I still don't understand why I cannot see the FiOS app listed in the Samsung app store via my BluRay player.
My question is, still --- can you only see what they say will work on a specific unit? Maybe, later today, I'll get a chance to talk to a Samsung techie... -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

 | Not sure. I see an Ad banner that cycles through various apps, when I enter the Smart Hub, which is the app store on the TV. This banner includes the Verizon app. When you see an Ad, you can click on it to get more details. I have clicked on the Verizon app Ad several times and it does give me more details, including an option to click OK to install it but it never installs. Other apps like Vudu, Discovery, BBC and YouTube all install ok, if I do the same thing.
The Verizon app never shows up in the app store listing for me, under the video, Info or Lifestyle (or any other category for that matter). My understanding is it is supposed to show under the video category, which makes sense as all the other video apps show up there (including Netflix and Amazon, plus the others I mentioned before).
I've reset the Smart Hub several times, to no avail.
Is the app store also called Smart Hub on the BluRay player? |
|
Rattler join:2001-04-13 Havertown, PA | said by DGGSLF:Is the app store also called Smart Hub on the BluRay player? The App Store is an icon in the Smart Hub screen.
FWIW, attached is a pic of what I see when I enter the Smart Hub on the BluRay. The only item that changes (every 5 - 10 secs) is the icon in the upper right hand corner that basically shows recent additions to the store.
I can then go to the app store but the FiOS app is not one of the 45 apps listed under the Video heading...
I have not downloaded anything other than what was automatically done when I first activated networking and entered the Smart Hub, triggering the Samsung auto-updates. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

 | Rattler, you're right. Let me clarify a bit, using your graphic.
My "Samsung Apps" widget is similar to yours, except on my TV, the Apps widget/store is in the upper right corner of the screen and my "Yupp TV" advertisement banner shows up approximately where your Samsung Apps widget shows up. On my TV, it also changes every 5 -10 seconds and that is also where the FiOS TV adertisement shows up. Also, just like your player is showing on the graphic, each new advertisement, including the FiOS TV ad, says "press Enter for more info". Once you do that, it gives you the option to install but never does.
I also have a mini screen in the upper left corner that shows the current channel I'm viewing. |
