If they have to record analog then there is a quality loss because it has to digitize the video to digital, and analog cable TV has enough noise to throw video codecs into a fit. However ever since road runners very first DVR if you are watching a digital channel then it saves itself work by simply saving the digital stream so that there is no quality loss on recording.  <br><br>Saddly the interface has not changed since day 1. I hate it too but most DVRs use similar interfaces so what can you do? I think when Google's Android for TV's is done we will finally see some innovative TV interfaces that will trickle into the dvr market. This is probably 5 years down the road though. ^^]]></description>

It isn't to me compared to others but again depends on the user.  If you record high def thats what you will get back.  Not sure what you mean by low res.
