Sprint new data meter very broken...

Hi guys,

This month Sprint started limiting hot spot users to 5 gigs a month. Well, I noticed something strange. Any and all data usage you use while the hot spot is turned on is being billed towards your 5gig quota on the hotspot.

I use my phone as a modem at work while I drive around. I use a laptop to connect to a telnet application, very little data usage. On the handset I stream Pandora. Well, Pandora usage on the handset is being billed towards the hotspot.

Tested this by turning on the hotspot, then downloading a 100 meg file on my cell phone. Waited an hour....sure enough damn thing used 100 megs of the hotspot quota.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Regardless what you want to call it or how you use it, all data that moves between your phone and the cell tower is part of your 5 GB plan.

Sprint has unlimited data for phones
but a 5 gig cap for tethering. The tethering cap is is a separate allotment. Most vendors do the same.

The way sprint meters tethered connections is to create a different data profile for tethering. Most phones can only do one type of connection, so any data when the hotspot is on is metered as tethered data.
