Because button cells belong on Cat5
You guys are going to love this one. This is what happens when a "maintenance guy fixes the phones". I walked out on this one. Never touched this mess other than the software on the equipment.

Eh those button's aren't soooo bad. I've seen wire nuts used on cat5e, hah.

Heh. That's really not that bad. You can still tell where all the wires go. I could show you things that would have you burning your computer.

Not bad. But it looks like a call center, or worse emergency dispatch?

It's easily fixable. Just a load of cable management. All the pieces to make it work are there, it looks like it's just a case of DOING it.

Not scary. Annoying, but surprisingly fixable.

I'm kind of surprised, actually. I don't do a lot of work with hardware so I don't see much.

I would hate to attempt to clean up something worse than this.

I've cleaned up worse. Seems like a real uphill battle at first, but there's a real feeling of satisfaction when you're done. Of course it's likely that within a couple of years you may have to start all over again..

I'd love to get that for a cleanup job.

It's not as bad as it looks. Everything you need for the job is right there. It's practically a matter of just re-dressing things. The back punching job needs to be re-done, but it looks like there's plenty of slack to work with.

Looks like a proper install that was just never maintained and became a run-away.

Looks like they bought a ton of 10 foot pre-made cables and tried to make it look neat.

The back looks rather ugly.

Pre-made cables also available in the following lengths:

0.5'
1'
2'
3'
5'
7'

Yep, someone definitely did get lazy. Too lazy to stock up on various lengths of cables. Either that or they got a very very good deal on 10' cables.
