noise My mom had a visit from shaw today saying that there is noise issues in the neighbourhood. She has telus phone and dsl and shaw digital cable. He said it was interference coming from here house and it was caused by telus and he is going to send a tech tomorrow to fix it. What the hell is he talking about??

Some device inside the house is discharging, or broadcasting, into a cable outlet in the house. That outlet would then be attached to the line Shaw has run from their network to the house. If the signal is strong enough it will interfere with the operation of Shaw's network and will need to be stopped by either preventing the device from behaving in that manner or by disconnecting the house from their network entirely (1 impacted digital TV customer is better than the whole neighbourhood not having reliable phone/internet/TV/whatever). In this case Shaw appears to be offering to locate the source and filter it out or disconnect it instead of just disconnecting the house. If it turns out the defective device is their hardware (i.e. the digital cable box) they should replace it.

She has also had issues with the digital box even before she switch to telus home phone. Lets hope she gets a competent tech. The guy that came today was suggesting she should switch to shaw.

reply to spock Well, Shaw phone is generally cheaper, so it's actually good advice.
|
She got rid of it because it would always go down in power failures.
