New Downstream Frequencies

Just an observation. Two never-before-seen download frequencies appeared this week (07/25/2012 late afternoon to be exact): 585MHz and 591MHz

This is DOCSIS 2 but I think the pool of frequencies is the same for DOCSIS 3. The total went from 6 to 8 with this addition but I'll be watching to see if any of the other 6 don't appear (removed).

A change for bandwidth demand?

Now back to your regularly scheduled forum.

more than likely additional DOCSIS channels popped up in your area. My TWC system is the first TWC cluster with 6 downstreams on DOCSIS 3.0. I just got 2 more this week as well although I have Time Warner Cable.

Hiyas. I assumed it to be an expansion of sorts. Managing these must be fun... each of these 6MHz channels could carry a few HD or something like 12 SDTV channels. Did sompin' go away?

I noted some DOCSIS 3 channel bonding posts and my DOCSIS 2 system seems to just pick 1 channel from the exact same set of frequencies. I wish it didn't change channels dozens of times a day (it produces a 3 second data gap! )

Remember when WOW did the digital upgrade? That is how you got the bandwidth for the new DOCSIS channels. My Time Warner Cable system has SDV and removed some analogs to make room for the 2 new DOCSIS channels in my system.

I believe we just got 8 downstreams turned up in your area. We're rolling that out slowly in all markets. Illinois and some or all of Michigan I believe have done this. Not sure about the other markets yet, but it's coming eventually. We should be at least 6x2 everywhere except the areas that were previously Broadstripe, and I'm not sure about previous Knology areas yet.

As far as the Columbus market is concerned, I've had 8 downstreams for at least 2 weeks now.
