A repeat of the Carrington Event, or worse. You could stretch that out via literary license to fry every transformer on the planet, I suppose. Assuming no breakdown of law and order, it would take years to decades to get the power grid operational again. Assuming human nature, it would never come back on. |

even simple circuits should still works. I mean what is an EM pulse going to do to some copper wire or a tungsten filament,
.?

 | reply to Octavean Bet you aliens are responsible and they are just disabling our more complex technology in preparation of an invasion, and to kill any and all chances of opposition. Pass. I've had issues with it too. All electricity disabling technology is temporary. EMP destroy circuits, but they don't prevent electricity from working after the EMP is over.
I don't know if you have ever seen Farscape but in one episode, they encounter a planet where an energy field disables all technology. This is the only way I can accept the plot of revolution.
But at the same time, steam technology should still work, I wonder if Revolution will show stuff like trains. -- What smells like blue? |

Wily_OnePremium join:2002-11-24 San Jose, CA | Yeah if there's really a dampening field or somesuch that is "preventing" electricity from working, then the plot goes all to hell. Not just no lightning, no life at all. All life on Earth uses electricity to live. (ATP, electron transport, etc.) Furthermore, if there's no electricity then there can't be magnetism either. No magnetism, no magnetic field protecting Earth from solar radiation and cosmic rays. Again, = no life. |

 | Yep. I'm seeing major plot holes in this series. They really ought to run these plots and storylines by a panel of techie, and sci-fi geeks first. That way the plot holes and stupidity would be covered. -- "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use." - Galileo |

| reply to darcilicious Hopefully they had a science adviser on hand to come up with a plausible explanation for the event, and actually use that explanation on the show. But to be honest, even if they don't have a good explanation, I'll probably still watch just to see what happens. | reply to darcilicious OK I didn't pay attention to this thread when it was started but I saw an ad for it on tv and knew someone here posted about it. I figure I will give it a shot. Could be interesting.
Regarding the trailer, interesting that the plane crashes, presumably because it has lost power yet the wing lights are still on. And as someone pointed out that planes don't spin out of control like that, unless hit by Godzilla.
So it seems that power does live according to the end of the trailer. Who is talking to who there at the end?
I can live with the idea that electronics don't work. For whatever reason. We don't know why but our attempts at electricity don't work.
I just hope it is a good show and lasts for a while.
In any case we will see Sep 17th. -- Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war |

| reply to darcilicious Scifi doesn't sell well on conventional tv,first, I have no interest in waiting 8-9 months (with a hefty winter break) in the middle to play itself out.
2ndlly because it's going to be 22 or so episodes, how many filler episodes will there be to round out the season?
3rdly as I mentioned above due to it being (semi) serialized, how many viewers will forget the show after a 3 month break? The reason shows like falling skies do well is because it's a tight 10 episode story arc, he'll the Brits do this all the time with 6-8 episodes. You'll get 10 episodes in the fall taking us till the end of November , leaving 12 episodes for Jan to May, with at least 5-6 episodes "saved" for the Feb and May sweeps.
The numbers don't materialize and the show gets canceled, rinse repeat. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |
