One reason for many MSOs is management IP space. If they have more than a few million devices on their network, IPv4 management becomes very cumbersome.
With IPv6, they don't have to worry about federating their network.
Proper PMTU discovery, security, and node/router discovery features are also pluses.
That's a good point. I hadn't really thought about it, but I have seen a couple of MSO's have to deal with the limited private IP space when they connected their various regional networks.
