It can even give you an indication of how much useful life the battery has left, and a lot of information about manufacturing specs, actual voltage capabilities, and lots more. The CPU and HDD temp readings are useful, as well, but may or may not work on some BIOSes, and under Vista/7 you may have to run a registry util in the program's folder to allow the program to bypass UAC to access BIOS level functions.

Camelot One posted : A client recently brought me a Sony with the same behavior. He had purchased an aftermarket replacement battery off ebay, and it wouldn't charge. I found that a modified bios had to be loaded in order to use non-Sony batteries in that particular model. Most of the aftermarket sellers including a link to the modified bios, but the behavior with the stock bios was that a battery would run the laptop, but the charging circuit wouldn't engage unless the extra chip found only in the official batteries was detected.

I've never heard of Toshiba doing that, but I thought I would mention it.

Popped it in and it was charged. However, the battery didn't recharge. Is there a way to diagnose whether the issue is with the battery, or with the computer; short of finding another laptop that uses the same battery? :(
