Google Nexus 7 antivirus?

Is it needed? Never owned a tablet before and just got this. I installed Avast for now just in case. Until I can get some answers. Thanks.

I've heard good things from those that use Lookout on Android based phones.

Avast does have AV for Android as you already know.

As long as you practice common sense, install apps only from the Play store, there is absolutely no need for some "antivirus" app on your phone or tablet. I've run Android phones for years and I have yet to encounter any malware. Don't believe the FUD from Apple/Microsoft and the A/V vendors who just want to make a sale.

You should be fine with Avast on your Nexus 7. I run Avast on my Android phone (Galaxy Nexus) and on my PC.

You don't need AV. Just don't install anything unless you know exactly what it is and what it does.

Most of the malware on Android consists of shady apps from non-official sources.

I have Avast installed on my Android only because I came to Android from a Blackberry which got a nasty virus (I know not how) that would shut down the phone for a day or two without notice.

The latest Avast version has some nice features including a network monitor.

To me, it's once bitten twice shy and to throw in another cliche' - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
