I like tivo because I can record more programs at once compared to the Fios DVR

I have three Tivos in our home. I almost dropped FIOS when it first came around the DVR they supplied was so bad. When Verizon offered the Multi-Room DVR for a low price a few months ago, we got one and tried it. I really wanted to like it, since having all my boxes from one provider would make my life easier......and cheaper.

But I couldn't get over how unrefined the new Motorola box we were given when compared to the Tivo. To the last day I had that Verizon DVR, I'd press a button on the remote and nothing would happen.....then I'd press it again, still nothing....then I'd press again and it would zip through all the previous button presses rapid fire, and I would wind up on a screen I never wanted to be at. It was just frustrating.

Add in the other things Tivo does like allows you to move things from your Tivos to a computer on your network.....then convert those shows to a format for your iPad.

The Tivos have come down a long way in price, under $100. So the upfront cost isn't as bad as what I faced when the Tivo HD was over $200 each.

Tivo simply works. I have a pair of Tivo HD's and a Tivo Premiere. They work well, and they are easy to use.

Biggest negative on Tivo's, they cannot access Verizon's VOD offerings.

Other than Pay Per View On Demand on a TiVo is an unneed luxury. Having a 4 tuner TiVo with a 2 TB HDD there is really no reason to miss anything.
As for PPV options, in my case at least, my TV, BRP, PS2, Tablet and even my cell phone all have many PPV options available and for that matter so does my TiVo. PPV options and FiOS ON Demand are 2 different things.
That said, every great once in a while I will use the 7232 I have to catch up on a series show i might have missed, example. Game of Thrones. Having never seen an episode of it I recently caught up on the whole series using On Demand from the FiOS DVR. So if On Demand is a big deal the OP may be disapointed with a TiVo. If having a great and functioning DVR is what they are looking for than you will love a TiVo and they are worth every cent!

Like Joe, I have both TIVO and the FIOS 7232. The four tuner capability of the TIVO XL/Elite is a major plus.

In terms of basic functionality Verizon has narrowed the gap with recent IMG improvements so for my purposes the two are pretty equal.

For many, it may be an economic decision. The four tuner Elite, with lifetime service can set you back in the $800 range. You also need to keep your eye on the technology change horizon before making a significant investment. Rent vs buy is a consideration and a difference between the two services.
