[Internet] Swap Modem Option?
I currently have RR Lightning and the SMC3GDN modem/router which is set to bridge mode since I use a separate router that I prefer.
I've had occasions in the past where the modem has had some type of problem and I lost my IP address and was able to verify that the router was not the problem. In each case, a soft-reset of the modem didn't help, but a hard-reset of the modem (back to default settings) fixed the issue. But then I had to re-configure the modem.
Unfortunately, the SMC modem can't be set to bridge mode by anyone but BH as the setting to turn off the gateway functions is disabled for end-users.
I realize it's not often and I don't even mind having to do a hard-reset to correct a problem, but I hate knowing that if I have to reset the modem, I have to call in for tech support to re-configure it. The last time I did that, the rep told me she couldn't do it and would have to roll a truck to have a tech configure it here. Luckily, I knew that sounded strange, so I called the following day and got someone who agreed they could do it directly from the office and they did so.
I just want to avoid these delays and headaches in the future. Is there a modem-only (non-router) option I can request from BH for RR Lightning, or is there a different modem/router combo that I can request that will allow me to set it to bridge mode from home should I need to reset it to diagnose or resolve an issue?

I have the SMC and have never had that problem. Next time it happens let me know and I will work with you on it. As for bridging I can also take care of that as well...in short...hold on to that gem...it's a good solid device and if you let it go you won't be able to get it back as we are no longer providing them for residential use.

Those Modem/Router combo all in one's have been a true pain and caused so much headaches, you can search this forum and find pages and pages of issues. Unfortunately BHN does not offer Modem only modems they want to give you the modem/router combo for the RR Lightning. If you have phone with BHN you might be limited on the brand you can have with them. You might be able to ask for a UBEE modem/router or a MOTOROLA SBG6580 modem/router. Have them set it in Bridge mode. Maybe one sweet day BHN will offer us the option to use a "modem only" Modem , and even give us the option to use customer owned modems with RR Lightning. ** Hides from BHNtechXpert I see him lurking lol** If anyone can fix your Issues its BHNtechXpert Gary He the man

I think I had asked once before about getting the modem bridged and you had responded and recommended that I call into the office and ask to speak to the PDS group to get it re-bridged.
The last time I called them to ask them to bridge it (about a week ago), I told the rep I had spoken to a BH tech online and was told to ask for the PDS group to bridge my modem. He told me, "We don't transfer customers to the PDS group." Ultimately, he got me in touch with someone who was able to talk to another group (PDS?) while I was on hold and they did get it bridged again.
Just seemed to be a bit of a pain to not only not be able to change the "bridged" setting myself (I think you mentioned in a previous conversation that the SMCs required a call to tech support whereas other modems didn't).
I really wish they just had a modem-only option for the (many) of us who wish to use our own routers, or I wish they would expose the "bridge mode" setting in the modems they do issue so we could make the change in the field ourselves.
Anyway, thanks for the quick reply.
