Re: [DSL] Problems with a forum/ IP address

I've created a new email address every time i've created a new account. And I know how to delete browser history/ cookies etc. including flash cookies. How would deleting work when they have sent them and it's kind of too late when you're already logged in? I even tried periodically deleting cookies through a web based proxy as I was on the site to no avail. The site requires cookies so don't they kind of work in real time?

I suppose I need to reformat my pc and recreate a new pc name or something? otherwise i guess i'm just hooped

No forum could possibly be worth all that trouble. Just find another alternate. Failing that Start One of your own in a similar vein.

not an option, it's a very unique forum, and i need it for the classifieds section. I'm starting my HD format right now, and will reset my modem/router and try using a different browser plus proxy. If they STILL identify me then i'm throwing in the towel lol

Have you tried TOR?

Yes, so slow it's unusable.

Re: [DSL] Problems with a forum/ IP address

Tried the reformat, change computer name, new ip, new email, new browser, delete all cookies inc. flash, and still just got banned! lol

My conclusion is that they are linking my IP LOCATION (toronto) with Teksavvy as ISP, and the only solution is to change ISP's which i'm not willing to do. I tried using a different proxy but it's too much of a pain and kinda slow.

Ah well, screw them, i give up lol

I do not think they will block the entire ISP based on one banned member, unless the you are the only member from TekSavvy to join them.

Anyway, if the forum uses Java, it might use a signed applet to track down your MAC addresses. In addition to deleting cookies and temporary files, change your MAC addresses and computer name and then rejoin the forum using different email address.

It's possible that they blocked the ISP, as I could be the only member from Teksavvy, since it's a heavily american based forum with few canadians. However, since I used a website that used a proxy, and identified me in the US, with different IP, i'm not exactly sure.

I did reformat and thus new pc name, but i'm not sure how to change mac addresses but will google and look into it. Since i've been banned after the reformat, would I need to reformat AGAIN to change my pc name?

The MAC address for each piece of equipment is hardcoded into the hardware and chipsets for the most part. The most you can do is spoof them. That is unless you use an entirely different pc or device.

Wait for a month or so for them to forget about you, then create another account. And stop being a troll lol.

From my research, they CAN'T see the MAC address? And regardless, they ban me on my bell mobility 3G, so it's something else. I suppose they see me posting in the same threads and link teksavvy and bell mobility to Toronto and think it's me.

Good advice to chill for a month or so and they will forget about me.

I wasn't trolling, I broke a rule on mentioning sale of an item in a message. My fault, but geez...

True, nobody can see your MAC address remotely in the normal situation, but it is possible by downloading and running a signed java applet in your computer.

Maybe the forum admins are really smart that they are able to detect your way of posting. Or maybe there is an applet detecting your device id / MAC addresses.

Try to use a device that never visisted the forum before and register with totally new information (and IP address). Avoid replying to your old threads as they may discover you. You also need to change your way of posting at that forum as well.

One other option is to contact the forum admin by email, explaining to him that you did a mistake, and asking for a second chance. Maybe he will allow you to rejoin or restore your original account.

Thanks intelp4, great post. You may be right about the applets or them detecting a "new member" posting in certain few threads. I did try using my iphone off of 3g bell cellular but no luck, so i'm not sure how they can run applets on that, but I think it's just the location/ISP they see.

I did just create an account and PMed the admin. It seems i'm good with an account UNTIL I post, so I was sincere and apologetic, and hoping it does the trick. If not, do you think VPN would work? I found a free canadian one that shows an Iranian IP lol

Also, if this all fails, is there anything I can do to "annoy" the forum out of spite? lol I will keep creating new accounts until they give. That is, unless they have mercy on me and grant me access to threads again!

If the ban is only based on IP, a VPN connection might do the trick. Just be sure not to get the Iranian IP

As for running Java applets on iPhone, it is capable provided that the Apple Java is installed. So it depends on your iPhone configuration.

Applets are not the only way for forum admins to track you down. There are server-side detectors as well. For example, a detector for new visits/registrations that came from a same machine (marked by cookies) where an account was banned. Even if you do not register, the detector can report the IP/Browser information to a moderator to track further activities. In such case, you will have to change everything before revisiting the forum.

I do not recommend flooding the forum with new registrations, as it might lead the forum admins to close the registration or or ban all non-us IPs. I wish that they consider your apologies and grant you a second chance.

Thanks intel! I never have a problem if I don't log in, ever...and when I register, it's all good too UNTIL I post. So if I disable javascript on my iphone, I might be ok with a new account?

You may try with that, although I cannot guarantee it will work. Just make sure that you change the IP address and then never visit the forum website before disabling Java/Javascript and deleting all cookies.

Just tried VPN (montreal, with a new IP), changed computer name, deleted cookies, and banned after 1 post lol It's something automated forsure.

Guess iphone with disabled java is my last resort lol They must have some sophisticated shit!
