Getting really tired of this. Been fighting with this new external I have here for the past couple of days... a 3tb seagate backup plus, meaning to replace the 2tb goflex desk I'd been using without issue for the past year or so.
Every single time I try to run the backup, I keep getting this error and I have to start all over again.
How do I fix this? -- Because, f*ck Sony |

 | From my quick search online, it appears it may be a BIOS issue (with drives larger than 2.2TB). Have you tried to update your BIOS? |

Some info at this link. Appears two primary issues (even if Win7 64 bit). One is file table issues that may be resolved by running "chkdsk" on O/S drive and how seagate has not apparently dealt with the 512 bit vs. 4 Kbit sector sizes.

Windows 7 backup will not work. I've been contemplating purchasing this drive but have held off because of this problem. |

I too have thought in the past on purchasing this external backup solution after my previous purchase of an external Western Digital backup drive kept failing. I believe I had a similar problem with Windows Backup. The I/O errors look quite familiar to me... I think it was a bandwidth problem or controller error of some kind with Western Digitals interface. I found the cheapest most compatible solution was to purchase an external drive enclosure (or in my case the "Duet") and stick whatever drive(s) I want into it. Although the drives are exposed and somewhat susceptible to being knocked depending on where you place them... they stay incredibly cool! -- Remember that cool hidden "Graffiti Wall" here on BBR? However, this Seagate external drive is as cheap or cheaper than many bare drives. That's what tempted me. After researching, I realized why it's so cheap. |

C0deZer0Oc'D To Rhythm And PolicePremium join:2001-10-03 Tempe, AZ | reply to C0deZer0 Well, frankly I had enough, and it's gone back to the store, since finally reaching Seagate's phone support today, and they had no solution for it... they insisted I would have to use their provided software, which neither has a way of restore/recovery in the event of a situation where I can't boot into Windows all the way, nor automated backup like Windows' own backup utility can.
So, what are my options, then? I'm not fond of Western Digital, either, as one of the reasons that I went to buy these external drives was because of a misbehaving WD 'Green' drive that was previously in an external enclosure not wanting to cooperate when I had to swap enclosures, and then not wanting to show up at all when it was mounted internally. I figured while I was trying to take care of that, I would try to buy something bigger that I could then use to help store these backups, so I could use my 2tb goflex desk drive as somewhere to store the data still on this WD green drive. -- Because, f*ck Sony |
