My car has heated seats. I am impressed by the way you can get in the car in February, turn on the arse warmer, and feel comfortable in a couple of minutes, even though your breath may still be freezing in front of you.
I rather regret not going for the heated steering wheel (which, contrary to your surprise, is not a new option)- then I wouldn't need driving gloves. Sure, prior to being comfortable, the option of being comfortable seems like effete nonsense: but after you've been comfortable, it looks more like a good idea,
The local BMW dealer says he doesn't bother to order cars without arse-warmers, since no-one in New England wants one.
And, apropos your original rant, it's not apparent that holding off on a heated-wheel option would have magically caused the other things to exist. Are the engineers interchangeable?
You stupid bumbling idiots, why don't you give us useful features such as all-wheel drive
... you don't have to take it to a mechanic and pay money to him to read-out trouble codes? |

What? I can get heated steering wheel and heated seats on a 1972 Chevy Nova if I start the engine put the heater fan to #4 and wait for it to warm up for 5 minutes while I drink my coffee in my kitchen. What's the difference? You have to wait for the seats and steering wheel of a 2013 BMW to warm up anyways. |

I can feel the warmth from the seat before I'm out of the parking lot.
Prior to the BMW with the arse-warmer, I drove a 14-year old Civic that required you to shiver for the first 10 or 15 minutes, and I'm pretty clear on which was more comfortable.
Look, you may not want to buy comfort options. On the other hand, I don't understand why you're getting all bent about it. People who have seat warmers around here seem to like them. I assume people with steering wheel warmers might like those, too. And your implications that somehow they'd have 'satellite wifi' (whatever that is - wifi is a local area thing) if they didn't waste time on inventing warm steering wheels doesn't make sense to me.
It's not like heated steering wheels are new and only in luxury vehicles. Even some Fords have 'em.
You could even retrofit your 1972 Nova with this. |

My problen with these gimmicks is that it makes the vehicle more complicated and prone to fail, costing me more money in maintenance but you are right, when you are a pompous douchebag owner of a BMW you will never get your hands greasy or care how much money a shop chages so its okay. |

Why, thanks for those kind words. I had previously been under the misapprehension that all Canadians were polite and courteous, so I'm glad to learn new things.
By the way, I don't empty my own septic tank either, so I expect you to consider that a character defect as well.
(Nor did I do the maintenance on my Civic, so I guess the pompousness must reside in me rather than the vehicle marque).
But here's the thing: modern cars are dripping with electronics; the entire engine+drive system is computer controlled; and you're singling out simple resistive heating in the steering wheel as making the car 'more complicated'. Priorities, eh? |

And of course no electric windshield washer: squeezing the rubber bulb under the dashboard works perfectly well. |
