most prepaid plans have smart android phones.

Are you high? Do they have android phones that aren't complete crap?

Net10 and StraightTalk have bring your own device and if gsm, buy a SIMcard to use your own device... contracts doesn't = good phone, good price, good service.

As I said, it's not all about the phones.. if you read my post, data is best had when it's dirt cheap and/or free, and since all the major carriers are not pursing that path.. it's best to use data on a wifi network until that day comes back-- in the early days of "unlimited" plans these types of plans cost $250 (Sprint) and then broke several price barriers downard to under $50 a month and then sprung back up due to heavy usage enabled by smart phones and the apparent greed of carriers-- they gambled on getting a generation of consumers addicted to wireless data everywhere so much so that they can charge $10, $15 and more per GIGABYTE of data in overages in addition to the rediculous charges they have today. Prepaid is a decent compromise selling essentially the same product, but either soft caps the data or throttles speed.. take your pick (No I wasn't nieve that companies wouldn't limit the amount of data consumed in some way on prepaid.. but you will pay a flat fee, no overages and have a good sense of the value you get w/o the hassle of a contract term and ETF just to save $150 on a subsidized phone)

Nope no GSM. No one here uses at&t because until 3 weeks ago 3G didn't even exists so everyone uses Verizon thus everyone has CDMA phones.

Yes, net10. Recently got one before going camping. 20 bucks for a "smart phone" and 25 for 750 minutes. Only needed it for 8 days. What I found odd was even at 3 bars, it would drop calls. So, if it was using AT&T's network, AT&T's networks SUCK. I had 1 to zero bars, but 3g svc (no roaming) on my Sprint Motorola Admiral which I had tethered to my lap top and was able to surf the net at acceptable speeds. I have one of the old Sprint SERO plans (now SERO premium) that costs me 40 bucks a month for what you VZ pukes are paying in the 80's for. And I get UNLIMITED data. I'm sure if I keep tethering, Sprint will shut me down.
