You need to either turn on DHCP in Repeater mode or turn off DHCP and use Repeater bridge mode. You don't need a cable to run to the host router.

Repeater mode requires your 2nd router to have DHCP on.

Repeater bridge mode requires your 2nd router to have DHCP off.
