It's been so long since I ran Windows I can't remember exactly where you find it, but somewhere there's a system directory for Firfefox with all of your chrome plugins and user settings. On Linux it's ~./mozilla.

Anyway, rename the directory to something Firefox won't recognize and run firefox and it will reinitialize with a new directory. See if that solves the problem or not. If it does, delete the renamed directory and restore your bookmarks from a backup. You'll also have to reset all your preferences and cookies and addons manually as well.

If it still crashes after that, you can download an old version from this link.

Let us know what works for ya.

Just ftp into ftp.mozilla.org, you'll find all the versions there

I tried to explain what you needed to do. Now you should have the mods move this thread to the »Mozilla Software forum.

So it wasn't just me. I uninstalled FF and went back to IE for now.

PaleMoon is a browser based on Firefox, but more efficient and optimized.

Also, they majorly update when needed based on major FF changes, but do NOT update every 3 1/2 days like Firefox seems to now.

FF extensions do work with PaleMoon.

I use them as my primary browser.

--------------------------------------

Having said that, Firefox itself is getting fatter and fatter, and PaleMoon (even though it is finely tuned and optimized) can't escape that it relies on much Firefox code.

Because of that, I find myself using Google Chrome more.

I hate like hell to say that, but it seems more usable these days....

Firefox is getting fatter and fatter, I started using it back in the Firebird days of .5, and it screamed.

Now it's just as bloated as Netscape became.

Reminds me of one of the [Robocop] movies, where they loaded him with so much extra programming that he had to go to a power station to short out his own circuits....

....so he could become efficient again.

If memory serves me correctly its Robocop II .

Am I still the only one running FF Version 3.6.27? I find any time that Netscape/FF gets up to Version 4 and beyond, it becomes garbage...

Anyone remember Netscape 3?...It was super awesome in comparison to IE 3...I stuck with it until pages stopped loading properly....although that was about 10 years ago now....

Regrettably, this is the destiny of all software out there. There's such a rush to add features so that a product can occupy the most bullet points in product comparison charts that the software naturally progresses to bloatware status.

What's really sad is that a lot of the bloatware could have been avoided if the development teams actually knew how to develop compact and efficient programs. Unfortunately, most programmers are so obsessed with using every "wow" feature of their development language, they don't even stop to think what kind of impact that will have on the final product and to the user experience.

I've encountered this firsthand. Very ugly how clueless most programmers can be -- if you can even call them programmers.

I tried several of the early Phoenix builds. I used to use FF regularly until switching to Chrome.

Back in the day, I used Opera, even paid for it back then.
