The epicenter was about 3 miles away from us, it was hard to miss. First a bang, then a LOUD bang, though it did no damage (nothing fell over or off shelves).

My housemate is a professional geologist and said that we're on bedrock, so earthquakes run through very quickly with sharp motions, but none of the squishy back and forth stuff you get when on softer soils.
