·Acanac

According to 1-700-555-4141 my service provider is Distributel.
I do not know why support would not release this info when the CRTC gives out this number so that you may easily find out who your carrier is. Acanac is only a reseller for Distributel.

I went with freephoneline.ca (VOIP)
$50(setup fee) + $25 (porting your number over) and that's it - NO more MONTHLY FEE'S afterwards. It's a simple one shot deal for life if you want.
They don't have a lot of fancy features, but considering your VOIP service pays for itself in a few months -I don't get why more people wouldn't use it.

I put an extra $20, as a floater to cover long-distance calls, which btw are a very resaonable .02 cents/min., and I still have $12.98 left - after 6 months.
That also helps them stay afloat.
I'm very happy with the quality of the audio as well, with no "canning" or echoes. Just make sure you have a good stable "UP" like 512Kbps, or 1Mbps, ...
