Whats up???Frequently, when I fire up Netscape Navigator, Zonealarm logs an attempt to transmit out to a paticular IP; mostly the following IP at port 80 ( FWOUT,2002/03/12,21:57:18 -6:00 GMT,192.168.1.4:1046,205.188.197.115:80,TCP ). 192.168.1.4 is my router WAN IP. I'm running InoculateIT with the latest updates and with realtime monitor enabled. I run a virus scan and it finds no virus. Was thinking of un-installing netscape and re-installing again to see if that had any effect. Any suggestions or ideas? |

Netscape is trying to contact AOL. But, that should come as no surprise.

I do not think it is virus related as the IP# belongs to an apparent AOL proxy. Is AOL you ISP by chance? If not, maybe someone else might have the same thing happening to them that can help answer your question better than me guessing. Paul, Paul, |

Yea, I saw this by running SamSpade and doing a "whois" on the IP. I can do a ctl/alt/del to look at running programs and go to "start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information/software environment/running tasks" (I'm running win98) and nothing looks out of the ordinary. It doesn't do it "every time" I fire up Netscape, just most of the time. I have Yahoo! set up as my home page if that has any bearing on the issue...... |

Since AOL owns Netscape, you are probably dealing with a form of AOL spyware. Check out this DSLR link for more info. » Netscape spyware? |

Thanks Paul,..........My ISP is ATT Broadband (attbi) and I have nothing AOL on my system except AOL IM and it only kicks off when I manually load it. Used to have AOL and deinstalled it totally last year. This has just started happening in the last month. |

LoPhat, thanks for the response. Checked out the links and they refer mostly to Netscape 6.X............. I'm still running Netscape Communicator 4.72 if that makes a difference. When I do use AOL IM, it is the standalone version 4.1.2010 downloaded seperately over a year ago from the AOL download center. (I do not let ANYTHING auto-update or smart update) |
