Phone wifi problems with FIOS Actiontec

Hey all,

I cant get reliable internet over wifi from the actiontec on ANY wireless phone. I have no problems with wifi on any other router just not on the actiontec.

I've tried changing channels and going from b to g to n etc. no luck. there are no other conflicting wireless sources. The router is just crap.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Do you have other Wi-Fi devices besides the phones? Do the other devices work okay with the Actiontec?

Is signal strength the problem? Do the phones indicate how strong a Wi-Fi signal they are getting (number of bars or something like that)? Does it work okay if you use the phone a few feet from the router?

Are the antennas on the Actiontec vertical (perpendicular to the floor)?

Yes. Our laptops work fine. The phones have the same issues regardless of proximity to the router. They show signal strength and the antennas are correct.

The router is the issue i just dont know why.

WE need to know which router you have and what type of phones. Are you able to connect at all?

what about changing the channels on your phone?

They shouldn't interfere with one another unless they are 2.4ghz phones. if they are you could also replace them with 5ghz phones or 900mhz phones and that would solve your problem

This is not the same thing but I had similar problems (sort of) with the Actiontec and a Nook. I finally had to back off of the security to WEP before it would reliably connect.

I have no idea why.

Connected to Linksys and Netgear without a problem.

I think you misunderstood the problem (or I misunderstand your response). He's having problems getting wifi to work on mobile phones.

Not sure of the revision atm but its draft n. The phones connect to the wifi but thats about.

Its either super slow or you get "network error" .

Only happens on the actiontec. All phones experience the problem, iphones and androids alike

Just brought a different laptop over to the house to test the connection and the laptop connects to the network properly allowing it to access the internet with no hiccups.

Whats the next step to resolve the problem?

Temporarily disable security and see if the phones work. If they do, it's something to do w/your security settings, if not, then dunno....

I have the same issue except only when using WEP Encryption which I was going to switch to WPA2.

Still had issues a little so I bought a WAP and removed the Wireless Actiontec.

I ended up buying an Unifi WAP ($70 on Amazon) and get way better signal (range and throughput) and it was great!
(Downside, you need a machine - mac or windows, on all the time to act as a wireless lan controller)

Now I only use the Router only to connect to Verizon (75/35 Pkg.). My Desktop is my DHCP Server and which I assign Open DNS as my DNS Provider and use the Unifi WAP for my wireless.

Hope someone else can help you with your problem, but from past experience there is not much you can do.

I believe its the router in some form or fashion thats responsible for the issues.

That being said, they are sending me a new router to replace the old one (hopefully the newest revision) but for some reason I'm sure that wont resolve the issue.

I'm not willing to decrease my wifi to WEP so if the new actiontec doesn't correct the issue I'll just get a new router, throw some 3rd party firmware on it and be off to the races.

I just don't want to shell out more money b/c of a crappy verizon product that cant do the job in the first place.

It is still a crappy Actiontec.

I was downloading something from work when a friend was trying to pull from me a file.

They got 300K/sec, I killed what I was pulled and they went straight up to 5.7MB/s.

Regardless the Actiontec is not a professional series router and when the speeds that Verizon keep coming out, their black Actiontec router (Wireless G version) just can't keep up.

Wonder if their new $80 Actiontec N Gigabit router can?

Thanks for the update, hope that was some help.

Have Actiontec "E", had nothing but intermittent troubles with wifi on two Iphones, two Ipads, one HP laptop and two Toshiba Laptops. Corrected problem by breaking out my old linksys and installing Tomatoe. Set up DMZ for Linksys and used WPA2 security. Has been running great. From what I have seen Actiontec has trouble with some data streams going through it, causing disconnect. On laptops would have to release/renew or reboot and similar requirements on other devices. Was easier for me to put in the Linksys than trying to work with FIOS support.
