Let's start here and then if no joy, we can move to the next steps.

Download DrTcp

Set Tcp Receive Window to 31944

Set Windows Scaling, Time Stamping, Selective Acks, Path MTU Discovery, Black Hole Detection to Default.

Leave Max Duplicate Acks and TTL Blank

Using the drop-down menu in The Doctor set your NIC’s (Ethernet adapter’s) MTU to 1492.

Save/Exit DrTcp

Reboot

Rerun the Tweak Test

Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: DSL Reports

Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test.

Your latency is high.

Run the LQT and post the link to it.

Do you have a MODEM that has stat pages with your signals, speeds, etc.? If so paste it here.

Re: Modem with stat pages. Probably not. It's an external device by Siemens. Not sure where to find such pages if they exist.

• Here is the User Manual. Go to page 59 and run the Diagnostics.

»help.optuszoo.com.au/img ··· uide.pdf

• Your MODEM may not look like this one, but there should be some pages for this. See page 60. If that is not right just poke around. You only need the top four.

re: question #10
I have a Siemens SpeedStream 4100 Router but didn't know it is also called a Router.

Shark:
Thanks for link to Siemens Manual. I tried to connect my computer to Siemens router through I.E. but the browser can not make a connection! Now what?

re: /r0/download/1···ts_4.png
Interesting info but what do I do with it?

Yes, it is a combo box (MODEM + Router).

You are connected via Ethernet and not USB; correct?

Use this to get into the unit:

Default IP address: 192.168.254.254 or sometimes 192.168.0.1
Alternate Admin URL: »speedstream
Default admin username: admin
Default admin password:

These are a brief but good references to use on setting up the the Siemens.

Siemens is connected via Ethernet.

No. Not ipconfig. If this is your Default Gateway 192.168.254.254 would go into the IE Address Bar as shown above.

>>> Ok, I went there and soon realized that the author has written this for some highly experienced/knowledgeable techs – not beginners like me!
1. How to set It UP:
Check if the Sync is present, (what the heck is the Sync? ) Since it’s an ethernet modem, no need to install the modem to get the modem in sync . If the ckt is not in sync than t/s for sync issues (what is a ckt and a t/s??? )
If ckt is in sync, make sure modem is connected to computer with ethernet cable. (Well, I know what an ethernet cable is – one came with my Siemens modem/router!)
Check if you are getting default gateway,192.168.254.254 (Where did that number come from??? It’s not in any of my data now that I finally know where to find it.)
If default gateway is present, put the default gateway in browser as you would do for any other router.
(Now there’s a real mysterious statement! Put it in the browser where and how and what does “any other router” have to do with the instructions??? LOL, I suppose any good tech can make sense of all these abbreviations and techno-babble – just not me (for now).

LOL, this one:
192.168.254.254
takes me here!
»search.yahoo.com/search? ··· .254.254

... Well, I don’t need that!

Whereas this one:
192.168.0.1 (from the bottom of my modem) along with my access code takes me here:
»192.168.0.1/modeminfo.htm
…which is a useful place even if I don’t currently know what to do with it.

To review:
Re: Your latency is high.
>>> So what can be done about that?

Re: Here is the User Manual. Go to page 59 and run the Diagnostics.
>> When I follow the manual’s instructions to establish a connection from my computer to the Router:
1. After installing the Router, start your computer. If your computer is already running, reboot it.
2. Open your Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator Web browser.
3. In the Address bar, enter the default router IP address: »speedstream and press Enter. This displays the “Gateway Administrator Setup” window.

>>> When I PUT »speedstream in the I.E. address bar, I get this: “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”!
I have not found a way to get to the Gateway pages that the manual shows! Got any idea where and/or how I can locate such pages?

Re: [DSL] Low stream speed

For anyone reading this string, I have some GOOD NEWS!

Today, two AT&T field techs came to my apt. building and, after many checks, repairs, adjustments, inspections, etc., they arrived at a "fix" for my DSL service and equipment and now I am enjoying much better line speeds and internet performance. All the things that were done and said to achieve this performance could take up several pages so I just want to tell you that we did reach a happy conclusion through technical changes both in the AT&T stuff and some stuff in my apt. SO THERE IS HOPE!
If you feel a need to find out what all was done to solve the "slow speed" issues, feel free to contact me.
I am ONE HAPPY CAMPER right now!!
I would also like to apologize for any offensive, ignorant or mean things I may have written in here about DSL Extreme, etc. while I was under the influence of my own anger, frustration, suspicion, disappointment, ignorance or stupidity …… I’m sorry for being an a**hole if and when I was during this time.
And thanks to Nick and all of you who have helped me at this forum.
Yours,
jim
