[IL] Intermittent speed problems and power signal problems

For over a Month now I have been receiving problems with my internet. Im not a tech guru by any means. However, you don't have to be to notice the problems. Slow speeds daily and hourly, I have the 20 mb package and throughout the day from morning to night I barely can receive 15mb sometimes, most the time i get somewhere between 1mb to 10mb down. Occasionally and I mean occasionally i can get 21 or 22mb down, but that doesn't last long and back to the under 15mb problem. I have had several techs out and they have replaced a splitter in the attic and the connectors in the house, even replaced the modem twice. My power levels went from 2dbvm download before the problem to now anywhere between 7 and 11 dbvm always changing throughout the day. I know that isp providers say anywhere between -15 and +15 are acceptable, but I have never had such a problem always steady. My upload power is between 41 and 45 which ive been told are good numbers. When I test the signal I am receiving High pings and high jitter, again was never a problem before. Always had low ping and very low jitter. I have a playstation 3 also which is hardwired from the Netgear modem/router gateway, sometimes there is such a bad signal that I can't even connect it times out. There is also the problem that my modem shuts completely off and reboots its self randomly throughout the day. All this has been going on now since the end of June 2012. Any help would be great. Is there something I should try or am i missing something. My neighbor is also having problems so could this be linked?

Can you visit the modem signal page and copy or take a screen shot of everything showed there, looking for the SNR and what modem you have.

I have a NetGear CG3000D Doc 3.0. I did forget to mention last tech put in a -5 dBmV splitter next to the modem. I have tried to see if it makes a difference. Can't really tell, however before problem I never needed a splitter for the modem. Without splitter my Downstream bonded goes anywhere between 7 and 11 dBmV changing all the time. With splitter it stays between 1.6 and 3.1 dBmv. My upstream without splitter is steady between 44 and 45 dBmv. With Splitter upstream starts at 50 and then tapers off around 50.3 dBmV. I don't know what all this really means, except that they tell me that it looks good. With or without the splitter I still have High ping and high jitter. I don't know if this is relevant or not but, my Event logs state all critical or warning. Sync timing failure, failed to Acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing, Failed to Acquire FEC Framing, Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance request but no unicast Maintenance opportunities received T4 timed out, T3 timed out. Sorry for long text, but was not sure how to photo or copy page.

Re: [IL] Intermittent speed problems and power signal problems

I too am in Sugar Grove, IL with Mediacom and I might be seeing something similar. I currently have the 12/1.5 service and have been seeing weird intermittent problems too. Mine issues are more like full speed most of the time and then all of a sudden nothing at all for a minute or two.

I've worked from home a couple times the last week and it seems like a few times a day my connection gets completely cut-off. One minute I'm connected to work and the web, the next minute nothing. It only seems to last for a minute or so and then comes right back, but it's frustrating. The time frame the original poster talks about over the last couple months seems consistent also, as I have seen this before a few times recently, but don't remember this behavior before.

I have a Motorola SB5120 modem that I've had for a while now. Is our area DOCSIS 3 yet? If so, would it benefit me at all to upgrade my modem?
