Re: [Connectivity] My Insight Internet having issues!! Can you post your modem power level's and SNR?
Go to 192.168.100.1 in your web browser and you are looking for some numbers that look like this.
Cable Signal Details Forward Path: Channel Frequency Power SNR BER Modulation 1 723.0 MHz 0.8 dBmV 35.0 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 2 711.0 MHz 0.9 dBmV 35.0 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 3 717.0 MHz 1.1 dBmV 34.9 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM 4 0.0 MHz 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB 0.0 % None 5 0.0 MHz 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB 0.0 % None 6 0.0 MHz 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB 0.0 % None 7 0.0 MHz 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB 0.0 % None 8 0.0 MHz 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB 0.0 % None Return Path: Channel ID Frequency Power Modulation 4 21.8 MHz 40.3 dBmV 32 QAM 0 0.0 MHz 19.8 dBmV QPSK 0 0.0 MHz 19.8 dBmV QPSK 0 0.0 MHz 19.8 dBmV QPSK
That will help me get an idea of what is going on. Also if you could get this same information during the outage. That and a copy of the log might tell something too.
Basically I am trying to figure out of it is an RF problem or a network\routing problem. -- -Singular |

Sometimes speeds drop to 1-3 down with ping times in the 350ms range (my service is 20 down). Other times the speed can be 20 plus and pings 11-15ms. On two separate occasions when speeds dropped to 1-3, I tried resetting the modem which resulted in a refusal to sync. It finally did sync, sometime later, on its own.
Tech came out yesterday and replaced the modem, redid the connections but also told me that my area is at a 90% utilization rate and that I could get issues when utilization gets above 70%. He said he'd pass the utilization rate up the chain.
When I tested after he left I was getting 10-20 ms with anywhere from 13-23 down. Not thrilled about it dropping to 13 but I haven't seen the ping spikes since, but it was so intermmitent I'll keep testing. |

The node being at capacity or overloaded is most likely the OP's problem as well. I just wanted to be sure by checking his signal levels. -- -Singular |

It was a good suggestion and one I wish I would have known and tried before the tech came out so that I could have narroed my problem down to the network or my own issues.
Right now I don't know if it was the modem, the corroded and dirty connectors or the utilization. Hopefully the extreme spikes in pings and drops to 1-3Mbps were the result of the first two rather than the latter. |
