I got real gas today

Behold!

:)

I averaged 24MPG @ 85MPH with AC blasting.

The motor seemed to enjoy the treat, it ran like a champ the entire drive home.

For us to be impressed you need to give us your normal MPG with fake gas.

What?
You didn't put additives in your engine?
Yikes!

Yikes!

why "Yikes"?

I've run at least 6 tanks of VP unleaded 105 octane with MTBE, not ethanol and have had no problems.

I thought MTBE was banned.

The problem isn't with the use of MTBE, it's with the underground storage.

I have done better with 30MPG @ 80mph with AC

on 85 octane with ethanol

Another victim of the octane myth.

Your vehicle is designed to use “Regular” unleaded gasoline with pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87.

--owners manual

Higher octane doesn't improve mileage. It reduces early detonations (knock). Sorry to poop on your parade.
If you want to buy regular gas and just send me the extra $.30 per gallon, I can guarantee you the money would be better spent. I'd at least mail you a Christmas card every year.

I never said the higher octane rating improved my mileage. The lack of a lower potential energy density fuel mixed into the gasoline was probably the reason the mileage increased.

You are wasting your money, premium gas allow you to advance your timing without pinging and knocking so unless you can advance the timing for better performance then it's waste of money

It also allows you to have a higher compression ratio. I have to run it in my GTI because of the turbo. The boost can get up there rather quickly.

Of course that also, but I don't think the OP 5.0 HO has a higher compression to use premium...

OP car has 4.6L 3V SOHC with VTC, not old pushrod 302CI motor, nor do I have the new "Coyote" 5.0 DOHC engine. See »Dyno tunes are so worth it for more information.
