Virgin Mobile behind Private network

Hi all,
I just finished speaking to a tech who was sleeping, and needed some coffee. He was getting confused with the terminology it seems. So perhaps someone here could tell me?

Does anyone know if Virgin Mobile offers PUBLIC IP addresses?
currently my IP is 10.70.*.* which of course is in a PRIVATE NETWORK.

the tech guy said that virgin mobile is only in a private network. Even if I have to pay a bit to get a dynamic Public IP that's fine. So if anyone knows, and knows the "plan", I would appreciate it!

How did you determine this? What do you get when you open this in your browser:

I use an android app called Port Forwarder, and it told me what the cellphone IP is. and when I do a tethering to my laptop, I do a traceroute, which will show several other "PRIVATE" networks, before we get to a public IP: 204.101.4.113

root# traceroute www.yahoo.com
traceroute to ds-any-fp3-real.wa1.b.yahoo.com (98.139.183.24), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

Oops, you're using a VM cellphone; I thought you were talking about BB2G.

Not that I have ever found... you will notice that they are not pooling users onto a single IP address either. For example while they might assign you a dark DoD address, they will assign you an external routed IP address that matches the last octet of your internal address... So they are not doing this for any reason other than to retain something different on the sprint branded cards (hey they gotta offer something more for a 2 year contract, right? ).

Sprint cards will assign you an actual internet facing address... and if it is a business account you can even get a static address assigned to your card.

There are a couple ways around this... you could set up a VPN connection to one of the many "VPN to the Internet" services (like Witopia, StrongVPN, etc)... the other method is a bit more difficult but basically you could setup your own p2p beacon network to reverse tunnel connections on demand. The VPN solution is the easiest

If you need a real routable IP address sprint expects you to plunk down for a 2 year contract
