4 edits | Verizon Cable Rate 62.5% Increases in Montgomery County, MD. There has been a 62.5% Increase in our County cable rate since 2007. That is no small number in a five year period during a recession. This PDF shows a uncompetitive practices among all providers in this location. I can only imagine it must be the same in other areas. Open this Document and search for Verizon. It will take you right to the comparisons if you scroll down and look on the page 10 chart.

This document shows that a larger number of providers, does not mean lower rates. They all seem to try and match each others rates. And the prices just go higher unregulated.
In comparison the equipment rates must also be taken into consideration. You must read the entire document to get a full understanding. All I can see is that the TV subscription services are no better than the money hungry Wireless Phone leaches that want to suck the blood from our veins.
All providers seem to be about the same as far as cost. But depending on location the channel content may very with each provider. Like my area, Comcast does not have the same HD content.
So all things considered, Verizon took a big hit launching FiOS and the 62.5% increase is an attempt to compensate for being in the red, and attracting subscribers. |

2 edits | I am paying less in my area(Prince William County). Prior to me getting the 150/65 tier, I was paying the lowest amount ever for Verizon services for Ultimate HD, 35/35 internet, cellular and Digital Voice. I was paying $200(including taxes). I used to pay 20% more with only three services. And I certainly paid more five years ago with FiOS when I had the 30/5 tier. Although now that I got the 150/65 internet tier, my bill for all four services went up $40 to $240 a month.
And five years ago there were less HD channels, slower internet speed, as well as older cellular service. Everything has improved while the price is lower. Plus on top of my monthly price I got a $300 gift card earlier this year when I renewed for another two years.(although I didn't get a gift card when changing to 150/65 and agreeing to another two years. But it had only been six months since the previous agreement) |

I think the main point is that in 2007 Verizon Prime was $39.99 and just 4 years later in 2011 it went to $64.99 which was a 62.5% increase. That is pretty outrageous in such a short timespan. |

| Congress was about to investigate the gasoline companies for price-gouging when the price of gas stopped following the price of oil. If the cost of raw materials / inputs did not increase 62%, but your price increased by 62%, that seems worthy of a federal investigation. Does that seem like a company is minimizing value, and maximizing profits?
In Econ class, we learn about 'collusion' where companies tacitly agree not to compete (gee, it's funny how all the prices of the major carriers [for the same services] are all nearly identical. This maximizes profit across the industry, until the first corporation acts out of greed, and decides to price-compete, which would suck profit away from other companies. |
