Tuesday, August 14, 2012 Why would the National Weather Service need to purchase large quantities of powerful ammo? Thats the question many are asking after the federal agency followed in the footsteps of the Department of Homeland Security in putting out a solicitation for 46,000 rounds of hollow point bullets. A solicitation which appears on the FedBizOpps website asks for 16,000 rounds of .40 S&W jacketed hollow point (JHP) bullets, noted for their strength, to be delivered to locations in Ellsworth, Maine, and New Bedford, Mass. A further 6,000 rounds of S&W JHP will be sent to Wall, New Jersey, with another 24,000 rounds of the same bullets heading to the weather station in St. Petersburg, Florida. The solicitation also asks for 500 paper targets to be delivered to the same locations in Maine, Massachusetts and New Jersey. The National Weather Service is is one of six scientific agencies that make up the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The solicitation requires a response by August 21.

Posted at 12:45 PM ET, 08/14/2012 National Weather Service ammunition solicitation triggers confusion By Jason Samenow UPDATE, 1:07 p.m. UPDATE: The Washington Post now reports, via a statement from NOAA spokesman Scott Smullen, that the original solicitation contained a clerical error and that the solicitation for ammunition and targets for the NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement mistakenly identified NOAAs National Weather Service as the requesting office. This still doesnt explain why hollow point bullets, designed to cause maximum organ damage, are needed for shooting at paper targets. Was the delivery of the bullets to the NWS a cover for them being transferred somewhere else? Its entirely possible given the sordid history of Fast and Furious, a federal government program under which guns were sent directly to Mexican drug cartels. ********************* » www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/cap···log.html Tell the Commander and Chief to put his arms down there..this is not a political forum and the teleprompter is on the blink. -- Gladiator Security Forum »www.gladiator-antivirus.com/

So, the ammo and targets are for law enforcement. Big deal.
It doesn't take much of a researcher to do better than Alex and his band of conspiracy clowns. even I found the real story in less than ten minutes.
Edit - The Marine Fisheries law enforcement is under NOAA which is under the Department of Commerce. See »www.nmfs.noaa.gov/ole/ -

So do you think the infowars article and the other posts out there is what gave them the wake up call to make the change and realize their mistake ??? I certainly do.

 EGeezerGo CatsPremium join:2002-08-04 Midwest kudos:8 | When you look at the changes from August 9 - 14, it was bouncing back and forth between fisheries and NWS. The delivery addresses in all versions were specified to DOC, NOAA, NMFS, OLE at various geographic divisions. (NED, SED) DOC NMFS OLE is Department of Commerce, National Marine Fisheries Services, Office of Law Enforcement. NED and SED are Northeast and Southeast Divisions.
Those familiar with corporate and governmental infighting may find this theory familiar. I believe this is the most likely explanation;
Some NOAA accounting clerk was trying to figure out the right account for budgeting purposes, and was being whiplashed by dueling directors who wanted the other guy to take the expense charge-back. They finally got it so screwed up they canceled the entire solicitation notice and issued a new one after Fisheries lost the battle.
A google of a 130 Oak Street Ellsworth ME delivery address shows US Customs and Marine Fisheries are there - along with AAA, an accounting office and a massage parlor .
Ah, well - it was fun while it lasted. I'm surprised Alex didn't hop on the massage parlor connection - Game wardens, contraband lobsters, firearms, a travel agent and a masseuse..
Whoa, Nellie, what a porn flick that would make... |

Re: National Weather Service Follows DHS In Huge Ammo Purchase Posting a crackpot site sans analysis did is just sad.
Anyone even tangentially familiar with federal LE knows they practice with what they carry. And calling .40 S&W a "powerful" round in this context is FUD--most special agents carry .40 S&W. That Jones even cites paper targets in the same article with a straight face is beyond sad and reveals his goal of delivering half the facts out of context so everyone gets spun up about an all-too-powerful federal government arming every single agency to put down the inevitable Alex Jones-led insurrection.
And did anyone stop and consider the time of year? Not only is this summer heat getting to Mr. Jones, but the end of the Fiscal Year is coming up and nearly every federal agency is receiving huge cuts (or at least having their budget frozen) come October 1. Hence all the large, rushed RFQs and bids. -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |

 Name GamePremium join:2002-07-07 North Myrtle Beach, SC kudos:7 | No but did search for the last time or anytime that the agency that is really getting all these rounds..actually fired off any shots or used their weapon against people of interest..did not find any..how about you ?
Guess they are all just for practice ? |
|
 KrisnatharokCaveat EmptorPremium join:2009-02-11 Earth Orbit kudos:7 | Yes, they are mostly "just for practice" (not sure what you are implying with the "just"). You don't need to find the last time a special agent put 16,000 rounds into a bad guy--they will burn through that ammo regardless: I'm not sure what the allotment is now, but in the past, agencies issued, to each firearm user, 1000-2000 rounds a year for practice and qualification (and they may have to qualify each month or quarter).
16,000 rounds sounds like a lot, but is really only enough for ~8 agents. You're really killing me here. Please don't ask why federal special agents need to shoot 1000-2000 rounds a year... -- If we lose this freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment, those who had the most to lose, did the least to prevent its happening. |
